The Age of Triumphalism is over

The Age of Triumphalism is over
Americans are no longer in the mood to chase after distant evildoers.
By Andrew J. Bacevich LosAngelosTimes
October 26, 2008
All but lost amid the hullabaloo of the presidential campaign, the State Department recently dropped North Korea from its list of state sponsors of terrorism. Kim Jong Il pocketed a concession that even a year ago would have seemed unimaginable. The American people — feeling more threatened by Wall Street than by Pyongyang — managed barely a shrug. Trade, within a society and between countries, is the exchange of goods and services produced by human beings. The owners of the means of production appropriate the profits. As a class, they are the leaders of the capitalist state and they boast of fostering development and social wellbeing through market. This they worship as an infallible God. From Spain to South America: McCain’s Axis of Evil

From Spain to South America: McCain’s Axis of Evil
September 29, 2008 By Nikolas Kozloff Zmag

Last week, John McCain set off a political firestorm when he suggested that he might not meet with Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero in the White House. Speaking to a reporter from Spanish-language Union Radio, McCain said “Honestly, I have to analyze our relationships, situations and priorities, but I can assure you that I will establish closer relationships with our friends, and I will stand up to those who want to harm the United States.”

Is McCain trying to blow up Paulson’s plan?

Tell McCain – Oppose Derivatives Rense
Bailout Or Drop Out
Of White House Bid
By Webster G. Tarpley
9-25-8

WASHNGTON, DC — Supporters of John McCain should tell their man right away and in no uncertain terms that he needs to take the lead in opposing the insane and futile derivatives bailout demanded by the Wall Street financial parasites through their spokesmen Hanky-Panky Paulson and Helicopter Ben Bernanke. Obama, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Rockefellers, Soros, and Goldman Sachs, is a sure vote in favor of whatever monstrosity Paulson is able to extort. If McCain were to join Barky in voting to flay the American people alive for the sake of Wall Street’s derivatives casino, he might as well give up the race for the White House and go home. If McCain were to accept Obama’s weasel demand for a joint statement in support of the bailout, the Arizona senator might as well drop out. Two thirds of the American people are not supporting the $700 billion bailout. A growing anti-elitist and anti-oligarchical rage is abroad in the land. If Obama and McCain are in a united front to support Wall Street blackmail, voters will conclude that Obama is a plausible candidate, and he will emerge victorious. Read the rest of this entry »

Candidates likely to skip bailout vote

Posted by seumasach on September 23, 2008

There are votes to be won in talking down this monstruous bit of legislation, but actually turning up to vote against it is a different matter. Can McCain win by adopting a radical posture against a piece of Republican legislation which will anyway be enacted.

Victoria McGrane

Politico

22nd September

Congress is poised to vote on the biggest government intervention in the financial markets since the Great Depression, but it’s unlikely that any of the three senators vying for the White House will be there – even though all three have talked of little else for over a week.

McCain’s Georgian Hyperbole

Posted by seumasach on August 18, 2008

“Exaggerating threats is a feature, not a bug, of McCainite neoconservatism, and reveals much about what kind of president he’d make.”

Actually, it reveals a lot more what it takes to become president, and McCain, the master of the external menace, may well be in poll position with his slogan “We’re all Georgians now!” The resemblance of these moves to the film “Wag the dog” has already been noted. Too much can be made of US foreign policy ambition: with disaster all round from Iraq and Afghanistan to Wall Street, US politics now is more about “saving ass” than “kicking ass.”

Matt Welch

Reason

18th August

On Thursday of last week, Republican presidential nominee John McCain said that Russia’s invasion of Georgia was “the first probably serious crisis internationally since the end of the Cold War.” This is most certainly not true, at least according to the last two decades’ worth of foreign policy assessments from one John McCain.

The McCain Tour and the Manifest Destiny of the U. S. Fourth Fleet

REFLECTIONS BY FIDEL

The McCain Tour and the Manifest Destiny of the U. S. Fourth Fleet

(Translated by ESTI) Granma

While I was preparing a reflection about McCain’s relationship with the anti-Cuban terrorist mafia in Miami and other related subjects of historical interest, fresh news was flowing about this character that is being projected by the empire’s hawks as Bush’s replacement: his visit to Colombia and Mexico which will begin tomorrow. It is not possible to avoid them since they confirm the opinions we have held. Read the rest of this entry »
