This week marks the end of the dollar’s reign as the world’s reserve currency. It marks the start of a terrible period of economic and political decline in the United States. And it signals the last gasp of the American imperium. That’s over. It is not coming back. And what is to come will be very, very painful. Read the rest of this entry »

The IMF Needs Fixing, and China Wants a Say

The IMF Needs Fixing, and China Wants a Say

What to do about the IMF? This, of course, was a question bandied about at the recent G20 Summit hosted by George Bush in New York last weekend, though no decisions were taken. Japan promised to throw a bunch of money at the Fund, which is sorely in need of it amidst the present world economic turmoil, and it was gently suggested that China might also like to contribute a portion of its oceanic foreign reserves.

Perhaps China should, but there seem to be a lot of questions it wants answered before it does. Read the rest of this entry »

In 1946, George Kennan, then the deputy head of the US mission in Moscow, sent a 5300-word telegram to Washington, hoping to alert his superiors to the threat of Soviet expansionism. Kennan had complained repeatedly and fruitlessly about what he saw as America’s indulgent attitude towards the Soviet Union, but for a crucial moment in 1946 his idea that the US should strike an alliance with Western Europe in order to contain Soviet Communism found listeners in Washington. The so-called Long Telegram, subsequently turned into an article in Foreign Affairs, became the basis of the Truman Doctrine, which proclaimed America’s willingness to fight the spread of Communism, militarily as well as economically. The Age of Triumphalism is over

The Age of Triumphalism is over
Americans are no longer in the mood to chase after distant evildoers.
By Andrew J. Bacevich LosAngelosTimes
October 26, 2008
All but lost amid the hullabaloo of the presidential campaign, the State Department recently dropped North Korea from its list of state sponsors of terrorism. Kim Jong Il pocketed a concession that even a year ago would have seemed unimaginable. The American people — feeling more threatened by Wall Street than by Pyongyang — managed barely a shrug. A shattering moment in America’s fall from power
The global financial crisis will see the US falter in the same way the Soviet Union did when the Berlin Wall came down. The era of American dominance is over

John Gray Guardian

Our gaze might be on the markets melting down, but the upheaval we are experiencing is more than a financial crisis, however large. Here is a historic geopolitical shift, in which the balance of power in the world is being altered irrevocably. The era of American global leadership, reaching back to the Second World War, is over. A Major War: Not Just Rumors
by Srdja Trifkovic

The crisis in relations between the United States and Russia over Georgia heralds a particularly dangerous period in world affairs: the era of asymmetrical multipolarity. A major war between two or more major powers is more likely in this configuration than in any other model of global balance known to history. Read the rest of this entry »

Last Rites For The American Empire

Last Rites For The
American Empire
By Karl Schwarz Rense.com

As I start this article, I want to thank Ret LTC Karen Kwiatkowski, now Dr. Karen Kwiatkowski, PhD, (congratulations, Karen) for reminding me of a quote that I read about 30 years ago and had completely forgotten about it. She has an excellent article posted on LewRockwell.com titled “Will the Antiwar Movement Strangle the State?”

There is a quote below that is in her article but it needed to be included in this one, too.

Americans need to read it, think, and come to grips with the gravity of the situation. And after they have done that, they need to get off their asses and do something to stop this madness.

Our Forefathers would declare war on Washington, DC. Of that, I am certain.

They would not tolerate or put up with the self-appointed royalty in Washington, DC and their lunacy and warmongering for even a month, much less the last 8 years of George W Bush/Big Dick Cheney’s warmongering insanity, and prior to that the 8 years of pure crap with Clinton and, thank God, just 4 years of that babbling warmongering elitist fool, George H W Bush.
