The latest developments in Syria are not, I believe, the result of some deliberate plan of the USA to help their “moderate terrorist” allies on the ground, but they are the symptom of something even worse: the complete loss of control of the USA over the situation in Syria and, possibly, elsewhere. Let me just re-state what just happened:

Crooke’s analysis is absolutely spot on! The implications of what has happened are immense. The USA is fragmenting at the top. It is very difficult for the Russians to see whoever is in the White House as a negotiating partner. We therefore enter into a dangerous stand-off. As in Brexit Britain, the military-industrial-financial complex consolidates it’s hold on power at the expense of peace and the prosperity of it’s people. I do not say there will be war with Russia but a continuation of the peace process Obama had initiated looks very unlikely. Clinton doesn’t want it and Trump will run into the same obstacles as Obama.

An important statement from Corbyn. He is effectively coming out for “Remain” by supporting membership of the single market as well as free movement of labour. All the claims that he actually favoured Brexit as would be consistent with his Bennite background therefore come to nothing. Corbyn has shown himself to be an astute politician. He is now in a strong position within the Labour Party and within the country. He will win support of almost everyone who has anything to do with the real economy which will be crucified by Brexit. Now we know why the Murdoch press hate him so much. Their attacks will be unrelenting as they try to cement their alliance with a substantial sector of the working class now aligned behind the military-industrial-financial complex. This latter group can now be seen to be, if there was ever any doubt, at the core of the British system. The same grouping is asserting itself in the USA by sabotaging Obama’s Russian diplomacy. On both sides of the Atlantic we hear the rumblings, the insane rumblings, of war.

This is simply astonishing. No government seriously engaged in talks aimed at an amicable parting of ways with the EU would have its top level spokesmen engage in provocations of this kind. Neo-conservative elements continue to push for the destabilisation of the EU rather than separation from it. This does not bode well for Brexit talks if they are ever to happen.

The UK had in the past opposed steps toward the creation of an EU army or duplication of Nato structures.
But the Franco-German paper says that “taking into account the United Kingdom’s decision to leave the EU, we have to henceforth act as 27 [member states]”.

As with Brexit the message is clear: never mind trade and investment, lets cement security ties with the Americans. Australia can now take it’s place in Oceania, an extreme right-wing neo-feudal remake of Orwell’s dystopia alongside kindred spirits such as Brazil’s Michel Temer and our own Theresa May. The end of globalisation is the talk of the town now that it is being led by China.
