Why the EU is lining up against China

Posted by seumasach on June 3, 2021

“The United States is pursuing its plan to transform the Atlantic Alliance from a super-army against Russia to one against China. The European Parliament has just quietly placed the European Union on this political line, even before the governments have taken a decision.”

EU takes step towards closer defence cooperation

Posted by seumasach on November 14, 2017

“Similar efforts to build up military links have been unsuccessful in the past. Britain, the bloc’s biggest military power, has long sought to thwart EU defence cooperation, opposing anything that might lead to a European army.”

British and American self-marginalization have finally allowed Europe to begin to caste of it’s vassalage to the Anglo-Americans and a key piece in the multipolar jigsaw falls into place. Of course, an “enemy” is required to serve as a justification for any military project and this role, of course, falls to the usual suspect: Russia.

Euractiv

13th Novemebr, 2017

The EU took a major step towards building closer defence ties on Monday (13 November), with 23 member states signing a landmark agreement, promoted by France and Germany, to fund and boost cooperation following Britain’s decision to leave the bloc.

France’s Fillon seeks European defense boost

Posted by seumasach on January 23, 2017

Brexit and now the Trump presidency have been instrumental in pushing Europe towards integration and independence. Europe must now look east and forge close ties of cooperation with Russia, Iran and China.

CNBC

22nd January, 2017

PARIS, Jan 22 (Reuters) – Conservative French presidential front-runner Francois Fillon urged Europe in an interview published on Sunday to boost its defense capacities with a pooled fund to finance foreign operations.

Jeremy Corbyn warns against ‘hard Brexit’

Posted by seumasach on September 25, 2016

An important statement from Corbyn. He is effectively coming out for “Remain” by supporting membership of the single market as well as free movement of labour. All the claims that he actually favoured Brexit as would be consistent with his Bennite background therefore come to nothing. Corbyn has shown himself to be an astute politician. He is now in a strong position within the Labour Party and within the country. He will win support of almost everyone who has anything to do with the real economy which will be crucified by Brexit. Now we know why the Murdoch press hate him so much. Their attacks will be unrelenting as they try to cement their alliance with a substantial sector of the working class now aligned behind the military-industrial-financial complex. This latter group can now be seen to be, if there was ever any doubt, at the core of the British system. The same grouping is asserting itself in the USA by sabotaging Obama’s Russian diplomacy. On both sides of the Atlantic we hear the rumblings, the insane rumblings, of war.

Belfast Telegraph

25th September, 2016

The Labour leader dismissed the vision of some in the Brexit camp that the UK could become an offshore tax haven by breaking away from Brussels.

Europe forges ahead with plans for ‘EU army’

Posted by seumasach on September 6, 2016

Who said good things wouldn’t come out of Brexit! The end of NATO is one of them. Without the UK European integration has received a shot in the arm and Europe begins to cast off US tutelage and emerge on the global stage as an independent force. As I have argued for some time this is a necessary step towards a multipolar world.

Telegraph

6th September, 2016

Europe is planning to forge ahead with plans for an EU Armythat some fear could eventually displace Nato, with senior officials in Brussels urging EU member states to capitalise on the “political space” left by Britain’s decision to vote to leave.

Germany seeks closer military ties within EU after Brexit

Posted by seumasach on July 14, 2016

Brexit has already had dramatic geopolitical consequences. This is the first one: an independent Europe logically leading to the demise of NATO. Meanwhile “independence day”, as you might expect, means for Britain an even deeper integration into the US security sphere.

RT

Berlin and Paris will push for closer military ties with EU member states, the German defense minister said, adding that the long-contended issue was let loose by UK’s vote to leave the bloc. It comes as Germany is looking for a new global role for its military.

Cameron spins the City’s demise

Posted by seumasach on February 21, 2016

Cailean Bochanan

21st February, 2016

It is unusual for the British establishment to risk a consultation with the people unless major changes are underway- changes which are sufficient to provoke divisions in the establishment itself. It goes without saying that the negotiations with the EU are not essentially about child benefit for Polish families living in the UK. They are about “sovereignty” although in a very limited sense: the “sovereignty” of the City of London. The deal struck triumphantly by Cameron is revelatory. It shows that conflict within the establishment  concerns the least bad option for the City: whether to face exclusion from the EU market and displacement by Paris or Frankfurt as Europe’s leading financial centre or to remain inside Europe and to take up arms against a sea of Eurozone banking regulations and by opposing end them. That is the question!

Poland ready to offer David Cameron EU welfare deal in exchange for Nato bases

Posted by seumasach on January 4, 2016

The imperial periphery , sensing imperial retrenchment, is trying to force a strengthened NATO commitment. This would also be why the Polish government launched a police raid against a NATO intelligence centre. In effect, they are saying : turn us into a forward NATO base against Russia or we’ll turn our back on NATO. But Poland is playing a very weak hand : the New Cold War is running out of steam and who is Poland to breathe new life into it? Furthermore, Britain is no longer the influencial force it pretends to be.

Telegraph

3rd January, 2016

Poland is ready to drop its fierce opposition to David Cameron’s welfare plans if he supports a call to permanently base Nato troops in the country.

The chaos resulting from the destabilisation of Libya and Syria, for which Europe cannot escape responsibility, have at least triggered a decisive shift towards a more independent European foreign policy

On March 19, 2011, the United States led NATO countries in a blitz of aircraft and missile strikes against the government of Muammar Gaddafi, Libya’s batty dictator who was visited in 2004 and 2007 by British prime minister Tony Blair, in 2007 by French president Nicolas Sarkozy, in 2008 by US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice, and in 2009 by Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, all of whom cordially assured him that relations between their countries and his were comfortable.
