The Trilateral Commission was founded in 1973 by David Rockefeller as an off-shoot of the Council of Foreign Relations (CFR). David Rockefeller was chairman of the CFR in 1970 and subsequently became the founding chairman of the Trilateral Commission. Soon the membership of the Commission had grown to 300 members, including prominent political figures like Zbigniew Brzezinski. Most members of the Trilateral Commission are bankers, media moguls, or corporate CEOs, primarily from North America, Europe and Japan, while all members of the CFR are U.S. Citizens. In the race among global oil majors to re-enter Iraq, China scored the first win.

While Western oil firms have been trying to access the world’s third-largest oil reserves since the 2003 U.S. invasion, state-run China National Petroleum Corp. secured the post-Saddam government’s first major oil contract. The $3 billion oil services deal, signed Wednesday, revised the terms of a 1997 agreement to pump oil from the Adhab oil field. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp, the government’s designated spotter, is starting to sweat under the pressure of so many firms sitting in hot water.

The number of troubled U.S. banks rose to 117 in the second quarter, and it’ll get worse if the housing slump and credit crisis continue, according to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp, commonly know as the FDIC. Specifically, the number of “problem” lenders increased in the second quarter to 117, with $78.3 billion of assets, from 90 lenders with $26.3 billion of assets three months earlier. Global cooling gains momentum among scientists

Two weeks ago, after writing about the possibility that the Earth may actually be entering a cooling phase, I braced myself for a torrent of icy missives from the global warming crowd suggesting that the heat must have fried my noggin.

By the way, it is very difficult to discuss global cooling in the midst of a summer when temperatures are hovering around 100 degrees and crops are wilting. As one friend and colleague from the sweltering Southwest noted after reading the column, “Please send some of that cooling this way.”

However, one response opened my eyes to the growing community of global warming skeptics out there, most of them merited scientists. I thought it might be worth presenting their thoughts — a little equal time if you will. Marc Marona, a global warming skeptic who works for the U.S. Senate Committee on Environmental and Public Works, sent me these excerpts from a U.S. Senate report. Read the rest of this entry »

In an interview with CNN Russia’s Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has said the Georgian-South Ossetian conflict may have been staged to secure a victory for one of the presidential candidates in the U.S. He says preliminary reports show that U.S. citizens may have been present in the combat zone.

The White House and U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) are urging Americans to return to the stone age for their own safety.

“After discovering that ‘thermal expansion’ of steel from a low-temperature fire led to the collapse of World Trade Center building 7,” said NIST spokesperson Noh Wei, “we started realizing that other metal objects might also be at risk”.
