This how the Guardian newspaper is trying to spin yesterday’s White House statement which pointedly failed to recognise Ukraine’s “interim president”. Carney precise words were as follows:

Threatened with death, Ukrainian Rada Chairman Volodymyr Rybak tendered his resignation on 22 February 2014, and left the parliament.
Without further delay, the remaining members of the Rada adopted several motions, including the release of Yulia Tymoshenko, former Prime Minister and the richest person in the country, sentenced to seven years in prison for abuse of power in a gas contract negotiation with Russia.
Simultaneously, Nazi groups invaded the main government buildings after having seized in a military armory.

The only way for Europe to defend “the rule of the law and the Constitution” is to condemn Friday’s coup d’etat. Having failed to condemn it they support it: the consequences of this for the European leadership and the rule of law in Europe are immense.

BRUSSELS—The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, called Saturday for the formation of an inclusive government in Ukraine and for all sides to safeguard the country’s unity.
“The European Union expects everyone in Ukraine to behave responsibly with a view to protect the unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the country. I call on everyone to abide by the rule of the law and the Constitution,” said Catherine Ashton, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs.

Modern astronomy surely suffers from a kind of blindness. It is either a blindness of mind or one of practice.
The continuing presence of Big Bang cosmology among those who are charged with increasing the store of scientific knowledge proves that there certainly is blindness in some form. Not only astronomers, but science reporters have lost the ability to differentiate fact from theory, thus helping to perpetuate the Big Bang. Media reports constantly assert that new discoveries confirm it when such reports are not based on observational evidence.

This neo-con view of Obama’s Middle East policy is in marked contrast to that of the left. The left see nothing but growing US belligerence, a new cold war, retreat by Iran, renewed possibility of an attack on Syria and an intractable Israel. Bolton’s view is actually more realistic pointing to the ebbing of US global power and the consequent concessions to one-time enemies. Bolton, of course, hopes that US diplomacy will fail, as do so many vested, lobby interests in the vague hope of returning to the Anglo-American global hegemony agenda. He darkly evokes “another 9/11, another disaster” which “will produce the necessary awakening.”

President Obama has three significant Middle East diplomatic initiatives underway, treating, respectively, Iran’s nuclear weapons program; Syria’s deadly, exhausting conflict; and the long-standing Israeli-Palestinian dispute. Into these negotiations, Obama and his administration have poured enormous amounts of American prestige, time and effort.

In a paper dated the 22nd of January 2014, bearing the title ‘Information Preservation and Weather Forecasting for Black Holes’, Stephen Hawking has not claimed that black holes don’t exist. He has proposed that the event horizons of alleged black holes do not exist and that only apparent horizons form when gravitational collapse of a body such as a star produces a black hole.
