Bloomberg

US fails to recognise Turchynov

Posted by seumasach on February 24, 2014

So does the U.S. consider Yanukovych deposed and recognize chairman of the Ukrainian parliament Oleksandr Turchynov as the interim president?

“Well, we believe he is the lawfully elected speaker of parliament. The — Mr. Yanukovych had left Kiev and packed up his belongings and left, and his whereabouts are not known. So, he’s certainly not actively leading the country at present.

Spanish report on Ukraine

Posted by seumasach on February 24, 2014

This Spanish report will dismay the forces behind the coup in Ukraine. The worst thing that can happen to “opposition” of this type is taking power. especially on the back of armed insurrection. Here we learn that the Maidan gunmen want “new faces” who won’t as they see it betray Ukraine. They are not happy with the appointment of Turchinov and don’t want Tymoshenko. Turchinov himself is delirious calling on Ukraine to “renew the path of European integration”. This is a non-starter: can you imagine the EU taking in one of the world’s most backward economies of 45 million people. All the Europeans ever offered and ever will offer is a free trade deal backed by IMF loans whose conditions will destroy any government that accepts them. We are seeing an illegal government, brought to power through foreign intervention, held hostages to armed madmen following a purely imaginary political agenda. And all this in Europe with the approval of the EU. Surreal, astonishing!

EU says Ukraine must preserve its unity

Posted by seumasach on February 23, 2014

The only way for Europe to defend “the rule of the law and the Constitution” is to condemn Friday’s coup d’etat. Having failed to condemn it they support it: the consequences of this for the European leadership and the rule of law in Europe are immense.

WSJ

22nd February, 2014

BRUSSELS—The European Union’s foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, called Saturday for the formation of an inclusive government in Ukraine and for all sides to safeguard the country’s unity.

“The European Union expects everyone in Ukraine to behave responsibly with a view to protect the unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the country. I call on everyone to abide by the rule of the law and the Constitution,” said Catherine Ashton, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs.

Shadow of a NATO-Nazi gunman

Posted by seumasach on February 23, 2014

Cailean Bochanan

23rd February, 2014

William Hague has decreed by twitter (for it is thus that the destiny of nations is settled) that he  and his opposite number Steinmeier have agreed to support “a new government” in Ukraine. Which new government would that be?: not the one Steinmeier signed an agreement with on Friday but, implicitly,  the armed insurrectionists who now hold power in Kiev. We’re used to Anglo-American contempt for international law but the Germans are meant to be sticklers for the rules. They haven’t done anything like this since allowing Vladimir Lenin to return to Moscow through Germany with, allegedly, a wad of cash on his person. Supporting a NATO-Nazi coup d’etat shows the Germans not to be the politically correct old fuddy-duddies they appear to be. And it won’t just be politically incorrect, it will be politically disastrous. Who set this trap for Europe’s soon to be defunct leadership? Putin and Obama are looking relaxed about it: is this the latest fruit of their “reset” in a week that Obama also effected a regime change lite in Saudi Arabia with the removal of Assad’s arch-enemy Prince Bandar Bush.

European leaders call for Ukraine sanctions

Posted by seumasach on February 19, 2014

For all their talk of an independent Europe, the European leadership still have the look of satraps of empire. If European construction is to succeed these imbeciles are going to have to be called to account. Are they going for another big own goal, to destroy Ukraine and create another poisonous failed state like Kosovo?

Spiegel

119th February, 2014

Violence in Ukraine on Tuesday marked a deadly escalation in tensions between opponents and the government of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. The two sides have been at loggerheads since the end of November, but the eruption on Tuesday night was by far the worst thus far. Weeks of fruitless negotiations over the clearing of occupied buildings and the release of arrested protesters gave way to bloody clashes between demonstrators and Yanukovych’s “Berkut” security forces.

Ukrainian President: Opposition crossed line with call to arms

Posted by seumasach on February 19, 2014

This kind of mob violence recalls Britain’s own turbulent and violent political past. In 1780 mobs  marched on parliament and rioted for a week leaving massive death and destruction in their wake. Like this violence in Ukraine it was clearly orchestrated from above, in that case with a view to intimidating the Whigs’ great enemy, George 3rd, who they wished to replace with the Prince of Wales who had been groomed to rule on their behalf. Only a fool would see this mob rule as some kind of democratic process. Western support for attempted coup d’etats in other people’s countries makes a complete mockery of the ideas of sovereignty and democracy everywhere and leading mob cheerleaders will be completely discredited.

RIAN

19th February, 2014

KIEV, February 19 (RIA Novosti) – Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said Wednesday that opposition activists had crossed the line by calling for supporters to take up arms at mass protests intended to oust him from power.

EU welcomes end of Ukrainian protestors’ City Hall occupation

Posted by seumasach on February 17, 2014

Another CIA destabilization campaign bites the dust and so the Ukraine won’t be getting the IMF programme after all. Meanwhile a forlorn “Yats and Klitsch” plead with EU for assistance and ending of visa controls. The Europeans need to reflect on the idiocy of their intervention in this crisis and how someone like Ashton could become their foreign policy spokeswoman.

Euractiv

17th February, 2014

Ukrainian opposition protesters ended a two-month occupation of the City Hall in Kyiv yesterday (16 February), reaching an amnesty offer aimed at easing a stand-off over President Viktor Yanukovich’s rule. The Commission president, José Manuel Barroso, welcomed the move.

The Anglo-American axis: Losing Ukraine, losing Europe

Posted by seumasach on February 17, 2014

Global Research

8th February, 2014

What is it that really “scared the hell” out of the Anglo-Americans?

Could Ukraine become an area of cooperation between Russia and Europe? Could European countries break free?

Concerning Ukraine, it now appears that the fury shown by the Anglo-Americans (that seems really too excessive and reckless even considering recent standards) is due not simply to the danger of losing Ukraine, but to the danger of losing Europe.

EU calls for Ukraine elections, shies away from sanctions

Posted by seumasach on February 11, 2014

Rather than rabble-rousing in Ukraine and throwing in their lot with the CIA and US lobby representatives the EU should concentrate on overcoming its own, notorious, democratic deficit.

Voice of America

10th February, 2014

The European Union has called for the formation of a new government in Ukraine, to be followed by free and fair presidential elections. But it stopped short Monday of calling for sanctions. Anti-government protests erupted in November after President Viktor Yanukovych backed out of signing a trade deal with the European Union.
