International Scientists Find Harmful Effects from Wireless Technologies and Urge New Safety Rules for Cell Phones (This link opens a WORD document containing the press release below. The link to the Pathophysiology Web site is at the end of this document.)

Public health concerns and scientific evidence for risks from cell phones and other wireless devices is published today in the journal Pathophysiology. International researchers have urged quick precautionary action (see Section 17 of the BioInitiative Report) to address a possible epidemic of brain tumors and many other health risks. Over four billion people around the world now use cell phones. They are rapidly eliminating the use of traditional land-line phones throughout the world. Health researchers from six countries give findings in fifteen (15) chapters covering health risks to humans and wildlife from electromagnetic fields and radiofrequency radiation.

MOTION FOR A EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT RESOLUTION                                                           On Health Concerns Associated with Electromagnetic Fields

In a 43-1 vote, the European Parliament Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety adopted OVERWHELMINGLY a Resolution urging the European Commission to recognize growing public and scientific concern over health risks from electromagnetic fields.  The Resolution will be voted on in plenary by the full Parliament on 26 March 2009.

German Doctors unite on RF health effects

This is a report published in 2005. It is notable that almost no doctors in Britain have observed, or admit to have observed, any of these effects in relation to RF EM radiation. We would stress that this isn’t a reason to  cast doubts on these findings.

A number of German doctors are combining together to put forward their observations of adverse health effects from pulsed high-frequency EMFs (microwave) to the Prime Minister of Bavaria, Dr. Edmund Stoiber. The health effects include headaches, tiredness, inability to concentrate and dizziness, and show an alarming trend.

A cordless phone of DECT standard is often the strongest source of high frequency electromagnetic radiation in a private home. Mobile Phones & Cancer

A spate of reports during 2002 is confirming links between electromagnetic radiation from mobile phones and cancer. Dr. Mae-Wan Ho reports.

In October, 2002, cell biologist Fiorenzo Marinelli and his team at the National Research Council in Bologna, Italy, reported that radio waves from mobile phones could promote the growth of cancer cells.

All the living cells in our bodies are surrounded by membranes just two molecules

thick. Most of these molecules are negatively charged and tend to repel one

another. However, they are held together by positive ions (mainly calcium) that fit

in between them. The ions’ forces of attraction for the negative molecules

on either side help to bind them together like mortar holding together the bricks of

a wall.

Extremely weak alternating electromagnetic fields, similar to those produced by

Wifi, cell phones, cordless phones, and their respective base stations, can act on

these calcium ions and dislodge them. This weakens the membrane and makes it

more inclined to leak. Very little energy is required since the calcium has to be

moved only far enough from the membrane for an alternative ion (usually

potassium) to sneak into its place. Since potassium (with only one positive

charge) is less good than calcium (which has two charges) at holding the

membrane together, it still leaks.
