FCC & FDA Cell Phone Regulatory Roles Questioned by Activists

Posted by smeddum on July 18, 2010

17.07.2010 by emily Category Electromagnetic Health Blog

Frustrated by lack of clarity on FCC and FDA regulatory responsibilities regarding cell phone radiation exposures, the American Association for Cell Phone Safety (“AACPS”) in Santa Monica, CA has sent formal letters of inquiry to both Chairman Julius Genachowski of the Federal Communications Commission and Dr. Margaret Hamburg, Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration. ICNIRP Moves To Protect The Cell Phone Industry

#1098: ICNIRP MOVES TO PROTECT THE CELL PHONE INDUSTRY

EMFFacts

The below analysis from Cindy Sage raises the question of why has ICNIRP (and IEMFP who does the risk assessments for ICNIRP) moved to release its risk cell phone assessment before the Interphone report is published. It would have seemed better to have waited until Interphone was published and then include that in the risk assessment. This is typical for ICNIRP and works out to be a tremendous gift to the cell phone industry. I wonder how much of a ‘hidden hand’ the cell phone industry had in the writing of this report, especially seeing how the power industry was earlier directly involved in the drafting of a power-frequency risk assessment. July 2009

I was an amateur radio enthusiast before becoming a professional biologist, but kept my interest in radio throughout a long career as a lecturer at Imperial College London. No one appreciates more than I the wonders of engineering that have gone into even the cheapest cell phone, but equally I know the very real dangers that cell phone signals present to both the user and people living near cell towers.

Dr Carlo Speaks: Radiation Is Killing the Bees Despite the Cell Phone Industry’s Disinformation Campaign

Dr Carlo Speaks: Radiation Is Killing the Bees Despite the Cell Phone Industry’s Disinformation Campaign

This seems to be the argument I hear all the time. There is no scientific proof. Planted by the disinformation specialists and repeated by laypeople the world over. The hell there isn’t!!! There is a massive amount of scientific proof despite the cell phone industry’s attempt to bury it and put pressure on journals not to publish it.
After the first news cycle, the mobile phone industry ‘hit squad’ went into action.  First, they planted stories that cast doubt on the Einstein quote.  Never before have I seen such a desperate attempt to distance a quote from a figure as revered as Albert Einstein.  In the process, his name was besmerched.  Very sad.   Next, they conscripted scientists from a number of universities to begin going public with other explanations…viruses, bacteria, pesticides etc., etc., etc..  These alternatives have been making the rounds over the past month.  The mobile phone industry is putting quite a bit of money into the pockets of these scientists by supporting their work regarding viruses and alternative explanations.  The industry is dealing with it as a politics and public relations problem….thus, manipulation of the public perception is the appropriate remedy for them.  Sadly, this is business as usual for the mobile phone industry. State University of New York at Albany / August 30 / An international working group of renowned scientists, researchers and public health policy professionals (The BioInitiative Working Group) has released its report on electromagnetic fields (EMFs) and health. It raises serious concerns about the safety of existing public limits that regulate how much EMF is allowable from power lines, cell phones, and many other sources of EMF exposure in daily life. Mobile phones may be killing bees and causing human health problems

Mobile phones may be killing bees and causing human health problems

• 23 Oct 2008 • euroweekly.news

This report greatly understates the evidence for EMF damage to bees and humans

BEE colonies are disappearing in worrying numbers throughout the world and beekeepers in America, the UK, Scotland, Germany Switzerland, Spain, Portugal and Greece are all seeing their hives vanish. When a hive’s inhabitants suddenly disappear, leaving only queens, eggs and a few immature worker bees, it is known as Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD). Usually there is an obvious reason for this, such as illness or attacks from predators. However, there doesn’t seem to be a straightforward answer for the current problem. Many of the beekeepers have also reported that other bees, animals and moths stayed away from the abandoned nests, which is not normal and may indicate a serious problem. Bees are one of the most essential insects on the human food chain. They are the main pollinators of hundreds of crops, nuts, flowers, vegetables and fruits. Albert Einstein once said that, if the bees disappeared, “man would have only four years of life left”. Read the rest of this entry »

The Freiburger Appeal -cell phones and safety

Appeals to the Medical Fraternity
The Freiburger Appeal is a German based appeal by mainly medical practitioners who are concerned about the effects, they believe, from mobile phone technology including masts, that are appearing in their patients. It started in Oct 2002 and with very little international publicity has got nearly 3000* medical signatories and 50,000* supporting signatures from across the world with very little publicity. Mast Sanity has been coordinating the distribution and collection of these petitions in the UK. Read the rest of this entry »
