Despite Riamondo’s endorsement of the oxymoronic puritanical capitalism known as ‘libertarianism’, this article is a biting critique of the War party
The idea that warfare helps the economy is a prime example of Bizarro logic, which has pervaded our collective consciousness since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, ideological fallout from the explosion of national hysteria that followed. In Bizarro World, as we all know, the laws of nature and logic are inverted, so that up is down, freedom is slavery, and ignorance is strength. In the post-9/11 era, as I have often pointed out, we have finally arrived in a world where two plus two can and indeed often does equal five – if it suits the purposes of the War Party to deem it so. Couldn’t have put it any better myself. Like a fine wine, President Mugabe is getting better with age.
Long live Mugabe!
By Cletus Mushanawani, Sydney Kawadza and Takunda
BRITAIN, America and their allies are lying to the world about Zimbabwe to try and build an atmosphere to justify their intervention, President Mugabe has said.
Addressing more than 15 000 people at Gaza Stadium in Chipinge yesterday, President Mugabe said: “Britain and her allies are telling a lot of lies about Zimbabwe, saying a lot of people are dying. These are all lies because they want to build a situation to justify their intervention in Zimbabwe. Read the rest of this entry »

The conversion of all this high technology and expertise to socially useful civilian purposes provides the basis for some kind of industrial reconstruction.
Controversial deal with Saudi Arabia catapults Britain to top of last year’s world arms export league(Guardian)
21st June, 2008
A controversial deal with Saudi Arabia catapulted Britain to the top of the world arms export league last year, as UK firms won a record £10bn in orders from overseas, official figures show.
The figure amounts to a third of all worldwide export orders for military equipment, ministers and arms companies reported. An essentially political, government-to-government contract – the sale of 72 Eurofighter/Typhoon aircraft, for £4.4bn, to the Saudis – accounted for Britain’s number one position, the figures make clear.

On June 16th the Nicaraguan centre-right newspaper El Nuevo Diario published a letter 1 from various well known people calling for the Nicaraguan coalition government, led by the Sandinista FSLN, not to shut down political freedom and to hold a national dialogue to address the food crisis and the high cost of living in Nicaragua. This appeal was made in solidarity with Dora Maria Tellez, the former president of the neo-liberal social democrat Movimiento Renovador Sandinista. The letter’s signatories end their appeal by saying that Tellez represents a broad section of Nicaraguan political opinion and should be listened to.
The signatories’ response to criticism of their endorsement of the former MRS president’s oportunistically calculated, factitious appeal is likely to be that critics of their letter themselves offer misplaced solidarity the FSLN government does not merit. But a brief review of the facts of the MRS record in the last few years renders the dishonesty and shiftiness of Dora Maria Tellez and her colleagues in the MRS leadership very clear. Apologetics on behalf of the FSLN are superfluous in this case. The facts speak for themselves.

Campaigners and activists gather in Parliament Square to hold a ‘Tent City’ in protest at the British Governments continued programme of deportation of people of Iraqi nationality.
As a result of the invasion and forced occupation of Iraq, many of its citizens have either been killed, fled their homes or been displaced into refugee status. Many have found their way to the EU and UK and claimed asylum status and have asked to stay here. The British government, nevertheless, continue to deport them back to their country of origin and in many cases to a life of chaos and fear.
According to UNHCR (United Nations High Commission for Refugees) around 4.7 million Iraqis have left their homes since the US/UK led invasion of 2003, and over 2 million have fled out of the country to neighbouring states. In 2006, Iraqis became the leading nationality seeking asylum in Europe.
The Tent-City assembles ‘illegally’ in Parliament Square and does so on the basis that it has not asked Metropolitan Police Authorities for permission under the terms of SOCPA (Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005). Despite this, they still receive permission to assemble from the police despite the fact that no application has been made.

THE Brits have turned into a fine art the very act of using others to achieve their own ends.
The trick — and they have got it just right — is to make it look as though they are helping you.
So to the uninitiated, their role in the politics of Zimbabwe is entirely honourable and they want nothing, but the best for the people of Zimbabwe. Read the rest of this entry »

There has always been a problem trying to piece together anything but fragmentary and discontinuous accounts of Iraqi affairs, but the problem is getting noticeably worse. What’s happening in Mosul following the publicized security campaign there, or is that campaign still going on? What about the provisional Sadrist okaying of the campaign in Amara; what does it say about conditions in the Iraqi army and police? And what is the meaning of “foreign minister” Zebari touting in Washington the near-certainty of a bilateral agreement by the end of July, in the face of more or less contradictory statements by the Prime Minister?
