Dutch Water Company Cuts Ties with Israel

Companies and governments in Holland, the UK, and Romania are downgrading ties with Israeli companies to protest Israel’s policies in areas it acquired in 1967. Palestinians say all of these areas must be part of a future Palestinian state; Israel says it has not annexed these areas and would make “significant concessions” in exchange for real peace with the Palestinians.

After its completely aberrant support for the “rebels” in Syria, Hamas is now coming back into the mainstream. Russian diplomacy is now central to a Middle East peace settlement.

“Palestinian leaders unanimously believe that no progress will be made without pressure on Israel from the international community, and in the meantime that’s not happening,”
Perhaps the UK government’s warning to investors about investment’s in illegally held West Bank territory constitute just such pressure. Now is a good moment for the many people involved in campaigning for Palestinian rights to raise their profile. Unfortunately, however, it is more likely that they will adopt an impossibilist position

have always believed that, at some point, the Israeli prime minister and his lobby would lose their grip on U.S. Middle East policy. At least I’ve believed that since 1982 when Tom Dine, AIPAC’s most successful executive director, explained how it would happen.

Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) official Yasser Abd Rabboh called on Hamas to reevaluate its regional position Sunday, now that Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy, its main Islamic ally, has been toppled. “The victory of the revolution in Egypt and the fall of the Muslim Brotherhood warrants [such] reflection,” he told Palestinian state radio.
