Neocons Humanity’s Greatest Enemy

Posted by smeddum on August 17, 2008

Roberts is mistaken in attributing the anti-Russian agenda to the Republicans: some neo-cons even stood out against the independence of Kosovo whereas Obama’s link to the russophobe Brzezinski is now well known. It appears, rather, that they have stolen the Democrats’ clothes on this issue. They may, of course, be more capable of carrying through on their threats, but the main concern of the Republicans is to hold power in order to stop any repercussions of their crimes of the last eight years. The bizarre and brutal attack on South Ossetia may just have done the trick.

There May Be Many Mushroom
Clouds In Our Future
By Paul Craig Roberts
8-17-8 Rense

The success of the Bush Regime’s propaganda, lies, and deception with gullible and inattentive Americans since 9/11 has made it difficult for intelligent, aware people to be optimistic about the future of the United States. For almost 8 years the US media has served as Ministry of Propaganda for a war criminal regime. Americans incapable of thinking for themselves, reading between the lines, or accessing foreign media on the Internet have been brainwashed. Read the rest of this entry »

Don’t forget what happened in Yugoslavia

Even as Blair the war leader was on a triumphant tour of “liberated” Kosovo, the KLA was ethnically cleansing more than 200,000 Serbs and Roma from the province
The secrets of the crushing of Yugoslavia are emerging, telling us more about how the modern world is policed. The former chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for Yugoslavia in The Hague, Carla Del Ponte, this year published her memoir The Hunt: Me and War Criminals. Largely ignored in Britain, the book reveals unpalatable truths about the west’s intervention in Kosovo, which has echoes in the Caucasus. Read the rest of this entry »

Putin’s Winning Hand:

Once the Atlantic Alliance is shattered, America’s lifeline to the world is kaput

By Mike Whitney

16/08/08 “ICH” — – There are no military installations in the city of Tskhinvali. In fact, there are no military targets at all. It is an industrial center consisting of lumber mills, manufacturing plants and residential areas. It is also the home to 30,000 South Ossetians. When Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili ordered the city to be bombed by warplanes and shelled by heavy artillery last Thursday, he knew that he would be killing hundreds of civilians in their homes and neighborhoods. But he ordered the bombing anyway. Read the rest of this entry »

Georgians denounce Saakashvili regime’s aggression

Posted by smeddum on August 16, 2008

The Georgian Peace Committee declares asks World public opinion not to identify the current Georgian leadership with the people of Georgia, with the Georgian nation. Globalresearch.ca

Declaration of the Georgian Peace Committee

Once more Georgia was launched into a situation of chaos and bloodshed. A new fratricidal war exploded with renewed strength on Georgian soil.

To our great disappointment, the alerts of the Georgian Peace Committee and of progressive personalities of Georgia on the pernicious character of the militarization of the country and on the danger of a pro-fascist and nationalist policy had no effect. The authorities of Georgia once again organized a bloody war, feeling the support of some Western countries and of regional and international organizations. It will take decades to cleanse the shame poured by the current holders of the power over the Georgian people. Read the rest of this entry »

Stratfor acknowledges Russia defeated US, not Georgian army in South Ossetia

The USA acknowledged that Russia had virtually defeated the US, but not the Georgian army in South Ossetia. US instructors have spent four years training the Georgian army for an attack against Russian citizens. The US administration refused to help Saakashvili, because the true goal of the new game in the Caucasus is absolutely different. Read the rest of this entry »

This is a tale of US expansion not Russian aggression

War in the Caucasus is as much the product of an American imperial drive as local conflicts. It’s likely to be a taste of things to come

Seumas Milne
The Guardian, Thursday August 14 2008
Article history
The outcome of six grim days of bloodshed in the Caucasus has triggered an outpouring of the most nauseating hypocrisy from western politicians and their captive media. As talking heads thundered against Russian imperialism and brutal disproportionality, US vice-president Dick Cheney, faithfully echoed by Gordon Brown and David Miliband, declared that “Russian aggression must not go unanswered”. George Bush denounced Russia for having “invaded a sovereign neighbouring state” and threatening “a democratic government”. Such an action, he insisted, “is unacceptable in the 21st century”.

Could these by any chance be the leaders of the same governments that in 2003 invaded and occupied – along with Georgia, as luck would have it – the sovereign state of Iraq on a false pretext at the cost of hundreds of thousands of lives? Or even the two governments that blocked a ceasefire in the summer of 2006 as Israel pulverised Lebanon’s infrastructure and killed more than a thousand civilians in retaliation for the capture or killing of five soldiers? Former German chancellor Schroeder sees Saakashvili as ‘gambler’

Posted by seumasach on August 16, 2008

Earth Times

Berlin – Former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has accused Georgia of provoking the recent hostilities with Russia by sending troops into South Ossetia and described President Mikheil Saakashvili as a “gambler,” in an interview published Saturday. “The moment that initiated the current hostilities was the Georgian invasion of South Ossetia,” Schroeder told the German weekly Der Spiegel.

Why Russia’s response to Georgia was right

Financial Times

12th August, 2008

For some of those witnessing the fighting in the Caucasus over the past few days, the narrative is straightforward and easy. The plucky republic of Georgia, with just a few million citizens, was attacked by its giant eastern neighbour, Russia. Add to this all the stereotypes of the cold war era, and you are presented with a truly David and Goliath interpretation – with all its accompanying connotations of good and evil. While this version of events is being written in much of the western media, the facts present a different picture.

The end of the post-Cold War era

On a day that China showed its firepower and set new frontiers for global razzmatazz, with about 80 world leaders watching and cheering, the opening ceremony of the Beijing Summer Olympic Games should have been Friday’s lead news story. But events in the Caucasus dictated otherwise.
