Thousands of protesters gathered around the state security headquarters in Nasr City at around 4pm calling on the military to take over the building and prevent documents being torched as had taken place in other state security offices around Egypt.

Upon that perspective, an unprecedented desire to form political parties has been growing. Many are in the process of being formed or registered, with a few already declared.

Not for a long time has Egypt loomed so large in the region, to both friend and foe. At least 13 of the 22 Arab League countries are now affected: Algeria, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen.
