This is a pretty reasonable statement from Tsipras- he is actually the one putting forward a conservative fiscal agenda while the ECB goes for the madness of QE. The question now is where is the Barnier plan for the sanitation of the European financial system, for the famous “bail-in”? Has it been abandoned under Atlanticist pressure in favor of permanent bail-out through money-printing. Tsipras’ moves so far look like an opportunity for Europe to get back on course after going completely adrift with its recent aberrations on Russia and QE. It’s notable that the Atlanticist press seemed quite relaxed about Tsipras at first, revelling in the discomfiture of the Europeans. A neo-Keynesian reflation via money printing, protecting the pound and dollar, has long been their policy for Europe after all. Syriza could well have been their Trojan horse, but they’re not getting what they hoped for from Tsipras. The plot has suddenly become extraordinarily interesting!

Prejudice was never a good guide, especially during periods when an economic crisis reinforces stereotypes and breeds biggotry, nationalism, even violence.

One of the very first decisions taken by the new Greek government, was to stop the privatization of 15 airports. If you think that this provision was of Socialist inspiration you are wrong. The new government simply stopped the looting of the country, as it happened before with the construction and management of the Athens airport. If this means to be Socialist, then I am Communist. But I am neither.

ATHENS – Sanctions-hit Russia would consider extending financial aid to debt-ridden Greece if Athens were to make a request, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said. His remarks come after the opposition of new Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ government to the introduction of new sanctions against Russia. Athens has stressed that the restrictions will bring economic problems to a number of European states, including Greece.

The geo-political environment is now quite altered: Greek exit no longer means them falling prey even more to Wall Street- they can, instead, move towards the Russia-China axis. That may not happen but Russian diplomacy has changed the balance of forces inside the EU and given leverage to the new Greek government.

Gelb, president emeritus and board senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), recommends “a strategy that includes Assad and Iran as the key players in countering the jihadis.” All in all, this article provides great insight into the conflicts within the US administration, specifically between the Pentagon and the State Department.

The reported capture of the Donetsk city airport by separatists in eastern Ukraine could prove a ‘game changer’ in the conflict in that country. The airport as such is not strategically important but its loss testifies to the separatist side having the upper hand militarily and that cannot but sap the morale of the Ukrainian forces and erode the credibility of the pro-western government in Kiev.
