Rather than rabble-rousing in Ukraine and throwing in their lot with the CIA and US lobby representatives the EU should concentrate on overcoming its own, notorious, democratic deficit.

The European Union has called for the formation of a new government in Ukraine, to be followed by free and fair presidential elections. But it stopped short Monday of calling for sanctions. Anti-government protests erupted in November after President Viktor Yanukovych backed out of signing a trade deal with the European Union.

TEHRAN (FNA)- Licensed national opposition parties held a press conference on Tuesday at Dama Rose Hotel in Damascus, in which they said that the absence of internal opposition from Geneva 2 conference was a weak point and deficiency that should be remedied.

The parties said that certain sides’ adoption of the Doha coalition as the sole representative of the opposition at the conference was the primary cause of the lack of results during the first stage of the conference, SANA reported.

The year is 1979. The streets of Tehran heaved with the passions let loose by the revolutionary fervor. Imam Khomeini had just arrived from Paris a few days ago and the ten-day run-up began leading to the momentous turning point on February 11 when the armed forces switched loyalty from the Shah to the revolutionaries. By tradition, February 1 is the day Iran celebrates the return of Imam Khomeini from exile and this year is the thirty-fifth anniversary of the revolution. There is much symbolism that the first tranche of the frozen assets of Iran amounting to $4.2 billion was deposited in the Swiss banks on last Friday the eve of ‘Ten-Day Dawn’ ceremonies of the Iranian Revolution.
