Putin’s cunning peace plan

Posted by seumasach on September 3, 2014

Cunningly, Putin plans to foil the West by refusing to invade Ukraine and partition it as expected by Western analysts. Instead, he has proposed peace talks and to maintain the integrity of Ukraine as has already been agreed in talks with Ukraine and the EU.

Ukraine PM says Putin peace plan aims to deceive West, avert new sanctions

3rd September, 2014

KIEV, Sept 3 (Reuters) – Ukraine’s prime minister rejected on Wednesday proposals by Russian President Vladimir Putin for peace in Ukraine, saying they were an attempt to deceive the West on the eve of a NATO summit and to avoid new sanctions against Moscow.

NATO can’t do anything to save Ukraine

Posted by seumasach on September 3, 2014

All the nonsense and bravado that comes out of today’s NATO summit will not be able to conceal the essential irrelevance of this organization, an irrelevance confirmed by it’s inability to come to the aid of a militantly anti-Russian regime in Ukraine, installed by NATO itself, its very own baby if you like. For what purpose does NATO have if it is not the roll-back of Russia and the fact that Ukraine is not a NATO member is a mere technicality, world dominance was never going to be achieved by playing by the rules. The Kiev regime is NATO creation in its own image: NATO old-timers must have warmed to images of distressed pensioners, crying children and corpses in the street resulting from Ukrainian bombardment of Ukrainian citizens. Their thoughts would have gone back to past exploits: to destroyed bridges and trains in Serbia, to bombed weddings in Afghanistan and, more recently, to providing murderous air cover for murderous jihadis in Libya. Oh, the glory of it all! Yet those days are gone, never to return: the will simply isn’ there. I hope this is Obama’s irony: if so, it says it all:

“It [NATO] is unbreakable, it is unwavering, it is eternal. And Estonia will never stand alone,”

New Republic

3rd September, 2014

This week’s NATO summit in Wales has been billed as themost important meeting in the organization’s history, “a strategic inflection point,” an occasion for its rebirth, rediscoveryreinvention as a tougher, mightier alliance. The impetus for this new beginning is the worsening situation in Ukraine, which awoke the organization from its slumber by alerting it to the fact that its member states in Eastern Europe are vulnerable to an assault from Russia. Ukraine will be one of the main items on the agenda. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will be on the scene at the Welsh golf resort to plead for help, badly needed after his squabble with Russia on Wednesday, which resulted in yet another failed attempt at a ceasefire. Poroshenko will try to  convince European leaders that Russia is not just at war with Ukraine, it’s at war with all of Europe.

Ukraine, Russia reach ceasefire agreement

Posted by seumasach on September 3, 2014

Since the regime forces are being routed I assume that ceasefire here means withdrawal from Donbass. This is not something to be negotiated with Putin but with the leadership of the Donetsk and Lugansk Republics. Nevertheless, this is a clear indication that Poroshenko has sufficiently eroded the Right Sector to free himself from their influence.

The office of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko says he and Russian President Vladimir Putin have reached agreement on a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine.

How can you tell whether Russia has invaded Ukraine?

Last Thursday the Ukrainian government, echoed by NATO spokesmen, declared that the the Russian military is now operating within Ukraine’s borders. Well, maybe it is and maybe it isn’t; what do you know? They said the same thing before, most recently on August 13, and then on August 17, each time with either no evidence or fake evidence. But let’s give them the benefit of the doubt.

The Common Market of the South:

the long and difficult path to integration

Ariel Noyola Rodríguez

2nd September, 2014

Integration in Latin America is moving forward with missteps, contradictions of peripheral capitalism and the strong opposition from the United States. However, the prompt implementation of the Banco del Sur in partnership with the new development bank of the BRICS could call into question the financial dominance of Washington in the region and strengthen the integration dream of the economies of the South.

The vulture funds that corner Argentina also come for Spain

The vulture fund NML Capital that, together with others, has Argentina on the edge of suspending payments, is already devouring the rotting flesh of the Spanish market. Elliott Management, the opportunistic fund of the serial U.S. speculator Paul Singer, has already pocketed a billion euros of Bankia’s failed credit and 300 million euros of Santander. It is estimated that it has paid hardly 50 million for both these portfolios, according to Auraree.com.

Ukraine – What just happened?

Posted by seumasach on September 1, 2014

This is a most interesting analysis But one salient fact is missing: Kiev has already broken from the Right Sector who recently announced that they were on their way back to Kiev to overthrow Poroshenko. They regard him as a Russian agent and think he set them up for annihilation in the East. The Ukies performance in the war does seem to be almost unnaturally inept and you could legitimately muse on whether there might be some truth in their suspicions. Everyone just assumes that Poroshenko is playing the CIA’s game but couldn’t he also be playing Moscow’s. As I wrote back in May:

” I suspect Russia have strategic depth in Ukraine and that the new president, Poroshenko, will be a disappointment to the West’s war party.”

What perspectives could there ever really have been for a neo-fascist government in Ukraine? If Poroshenko was an intelligent man he would have realized that they were non-existent. Would he not then have realized that a way-out must be found and that only Russia could provide it? Would he not have realized that this way-out depended on taking out the neo-fascists? Once enough of them have been consumed in the “cauldrons” the negotiations can begin in earnest. That point may have already been reached- we’ll know this week.

This last week has seen a dramatic turnaround in the fortunes of the Novorossian Armed Forces (NAF); from barely holding on, to turning the tables on the forces of the Kiev junta regime. The NAF has from the beginning imposed heavy losses on the Kiev forces, often in the order of 10 to 1, but they were unable to hold many strategic areas as they were greatly outnumbered and did not have the heavy equipment needed to sustain heavy attacks. So what happened?

The Grand Saudi Reversal

Posted by seumasach on September 1, 2014

To complete the picture presented here by Meyssan we have to look at the conflicts inside the USA. It is interesting to see how Hagel comes to the fore now and Kerry fades from the scene, the one playing a winning game against the IS and the other taking the booby prize after the disastrous intervention in Ukraine. So on the one hand we have the constitutional or national state with the military at its core and , on the other, the deep or imperial state with the State department at its core. Between the two Obama equivocates but as commander-in-chief will ultimately go with the former. It wasn’t for nothing that the British backed the Confederacy and opposed the Presidential Republic! The deep state is now outmaneuvered in Iraq where the  dirty game of backing Al-Qaida networks can no longer be played. As Meyssan points out things have turned around so fast that some players are still dancing even though the music has stopped.

While for the past 35 years Saudi Arabia has supported all the jihadist movements to the most extremist, Riyadh seems suddenly to have changed policy. Threatened in its very existence by a possible attack grom the Islamic Emirate, Saudi Arabia has given the signal for the destruction of the organization. But contrary to appearances, the EIS remains supported by Turkey and Israel who sell their looted oil.

Poroshenko’s claim of Russian invasion is political tactic

Posted by seumasach on August 31, 2014

Russia Beyond the Headlines

29th August, 2014

On August 29, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said that “Russian forces had entered” his country, yet martial law has not been introduced. One Ukrainian expert interviewed by the Kommersant newspaper believes that Poroshenko’s announcement is a way of avoiding accusations for defeats in the southeast and weakening the pressure from his opponents, including Yulia Tymoshenko, who has called for the imposition of martial law in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. Kiev-based political analyst Dmitry Dzhangirov has characterized the situation as a competition in patriotic rhetoric between politicians on the eve of parliamentary elections for the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament. Kommersant also writes that making announcements about a Russian invasion is a convenient move for Poroshenko, since it absolves the government of the failure of the “anti-terrorist operations” in the east, where the militants from the unrecognized republics are now on the offensive.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister of the Donetsk People’s Republic Alexander Zakharchenko has described the militant counterattack as a “humanitarian-military operation,” designed to “move the enemy away from the big cities” and thus protect the civilian population.

Hollande Issues Warning to Russia

Posted by seumasach on August 28, 2014

Panic will now break out amongst the European elite as they threaten the livelihood of still more European farmers. Did they really think the NATO-nazi ragtag army would carry all before it? Did they really think they could run a neo-nazi coup in Europe and get off with it?

PARIS–French President Francois Hollande on Thursday said Russia would suffer a new round of sanctions if the Kremlin failed to stop arms supplies to pro-Russia separatists and didn’t respect Ukraine’s sovereignty.

The interpretation that comes readily to mind regarding the visit to Riyadh by the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian and his talks on Tuesday with the Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal would be that a thaw is in the offing in the ties between the two countries.
