Public Revolt Builds Against Rip-off Rescue Plans for the Economy

The European Revolution Begins

Watching the crowds in Iceland banging pots and pans until their government fell reminded me of a chant popular in anti-capitalist circles in 2002: “You are Enron. We are Argentina.”

Its message was simple enough. You–politicians and CEOs huddled at some trade summit–are like the reckless scamming execs at Enron (of course, we didn’t know the half of it). We–the rabble outside–are like the people of Argentina, who, in the midst of an economic crisis eerily similar to our own, took to the street banging pots and pans. They shouted, “¡Que se vayan todos!” (“All of them must go!”) and forced out a procession of four presidents in less than three weeks. What made Argentina’s 2001-02 uprising unique was that it wasn’t directed at a particular political party or even at corruption in the abstract. The target was the dominant economic model–this was the first national revolt against contemporary deregulated capitalism.

Washington and other US states claim sovereignty in possible move to check martial law

Posted by seumasach on February 8, 2009

That the State of Washington hereby claims sovereignty under
HJM 4009 p. 2
1 the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States over all
2 powers not otherwise enumerated and granted to the federal government
3 by the Constitution of the United States; and
4 (2) That this serve as a Notice and Demand to the federal
5 government to maintain the balance of powers where the Constitution of
6 the United States established it and to cease and desist, effective
7 immediately, any and all mandates that are beyond the scope of its
8 constitutionally delegated powers.

I am unable to assess the significance of this declaration but a number of states have seemingly passed such motions and it  it has been suggected that it is a response to the possibility of martial law. The Arizona Sate Legislature seemingly includes this

“…if the President or any other federal entity attempts to institute martial law or its equivalent without an official declaration in one or more of the states without the consent of that state … individual members of the military return to their respective states and report to the Governor until a new President is elected…”

Given that Obama is persisting with the bailout and therefore the sacrificing of the American people to the greater goal of banker welfare martial law must be regarded as a possibility. The pieces have been in place for some time for such a move.

Ecuador expels US embassy official

Posted by seumasach on February 8, 2009

“Correa also said that he would allow US coast guard airplanes to land on Ecuadorean soil, a request made earlier by Heather Hodges, the US ambassador, only “on one condition: that we be allowed to vet the pilots of those planes, so that they don’t sneak criminals into the country.”

Eldib

Sarkozy accuses Gordon Brown of ruining British economy

Posted by alfied on February 7, 2009

Isn’t it fitting that Britain, as it gallops towards the edge of the cliff, has a man of Brown’s calibre in the saddle.

Brown  was recently called a “one eyed scottish idiot” by an unsavoury British TV presenter called Jeremy (who has since recanted on the scottish part of that statment).

No doubt Brown would take abuse like the that on an hourly basis, in preference to what Sarkozy has meated out to him.

Telegraph.co.uk

Mr Sarkozy, who is under pressure over his own handling of the downturn, made his remarks during a live 90-minute grilling screened on three television channels when asked whether he was considering economic stimulus measures similar to Mr Brown’s VAT reduction. Read the rest of this entry »

According to US government propaganda, terrorist cells are spread throughout America, making it necessary for the government to spy on all Americans and violate most other constitutional protections.  Among President Bush’s last words as he left office was the warning that America would soon be struck again by Muslim terrorists.
