Posted by seumasach on July 24, 2008

MOSCOW. (RIA Novosti political commentator Oleg Mityayev) – Many analysts expected Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who visited Moscow on July 22, to sign new agreements in military-technical cooperation, but this did not happen.

Instead, a number of Russian oil giants signed promising contracts with Venezuela. They would replace their American counterparts, previously ousted by Hugo Chavez.

Posted by seumasach on July 23, 2008

The USA looks on, helplessly, at a counter-globalisation process of nations collaborating for mutual security and benefit in the face of the fading empire.

The US State Department has rebuked Russia’s decision to sell a package of sophisticated arms, worth 2 billion dollars, to Venezuela.

The US government says Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez does not truly need the weapons and has high ambitions that “go beyond his country’s defensive needs,” according to DPA news agency.

Russia’s “New Order” of security relations incorporating the US, Russia and the European Union

The Medvedev proposal

Perhaps the most unsettling aspect of the current US Presidential campaign, aside from the studied avoidance of any serious proposals to address the worst economic depression since the 1930’s, is the fact that both major party candidates, Barack Obama and John McCain, have to date been stone silent on the most pressing issue of future war or peace, namely the steps taken by the Bush-Cheney Administration to encircle Russia with a new Iron Curtain of NATO member states, including strenuous efforts to push Ukraine and Georgia into NATO, and to establish an advanced nuclear missile defense system which, from a standpoint of military strategy, far from defense, puts the world on a hair-trigger to nuclear holocaust in the few years ahead.

Hugo Chavez’s visit to Russia triggers wave of Western criticism

Posted by seumasach on July 21, 2008

“The Venezuelan president urged members of the recent PetroCaribe summit to set up IMF-independent financial institutions with such countries as Russia, Belarus, China, India and Iran.”

To begin with, Chavez just kept going back for more and more Kalashnikovs: now he’s flirting with the idea of a completely new financial architecture for the world.

Pravda

Last week, the gloves finally came off the Dmitry Medvedev presidency in Russia. It had to happen sooner or later, but few would have expected this soon. It was crystal clear US President George W Bush administered a diplomatic snub to Medvedev on the sidelines of the Group of Eight (G-8) summit meeting at Hokkaido, Japan.

Last Rites For The American Empire

Last Rites For The
American Empire
By Karl Schwarz Rense.com

As I start this article, I want to thank Ret LTC Karen Kwiatkowski, now Dr. Karen Kwiatkowski, PhD, (congratulations, Karen) for reminding me of a quote that I read about 30 years ago and had completely forgotten about it. She has an excellent article posted on LewRockwell.com titled “Will the Antiwar Movement Strangle the State?”

There is a quote below that is in her article but it needed to be included in this one, too.

Americans need to read it, think, and come to grips with the gravity of the situation. And after they have done that, they need to get off their asses and do something to stop this madness.

Our Forefathers would declare war on Washington, DC. Of that, I am certain.

They would not tolerate or put up with the self-appointed royalty in Washington, DC and their lunacy and warmongering for even a month, much less the last 8 years of George W Bush/Big Dick Cheney’s warmongering insanity, and prior to that the 8 years of pure crap with Clinton and, thank God, just 4 years of that babbling warmongering elitist fool, George H W Bush. A Labour MP who infuriated Downing Street by meeting a Russian spy for tea in the Commons has been praised by the Kremlin for attacking MI5.

Posted by seumasach on July 13, 2008

Whitehall watchers will be seeing all this as evidence of emerging fissures in the monolithic face of British establishment power, part of which, at least ,has the sense to see that the now fragile glass house of UK PLC is not the place to start a campaign of stone-throwing against all and sundry. Dissidents, however, are not tolerated in our great democracy. See Craig Murray’s blog for more on the campaign against MacKinlay.

Mail on Sunday

12th July 2008

A Labour MP who infuriated Downing Street by meeting a Russian spy for tea in the Commons has been praised by the Kremlin for attacking MI5.

Andrew MacKinlay – who was carpeted by Labour Chief Whip Geoff Hoon for his meetings with Alexander Polyakov – is calling for British security services to be ‘brought under control’ for claiming there are too many Russian spies in the UK.
