July 31, or last Thursday, was the deadline put forward last November by Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and US President George W. Bush, but the United States and Iraq have failed to meet the long-term agreement deadline as scheduled. The U.S.-Iraq accord negotiations, nevertheless, reached an impasse because of their serious disparities over the status of American forces stationed in Iraq, the withdrawal timetable and numerous other related issues.

‘Air Surge’ for Iraq?
Posted by seumasach on August 2, 2008
It can’t be stressed too much that, unable to win hearts and minds in Iraq, or indeed, anywhere, the projection of Anglo-American power consists, in the last analysis, of bombing and nothing but bombing. So its not just a question of “Troops out of Iraq” but “Stop the Bombing of Iraq”, a campaign of destruction and genocide which has been going on for not far short of 20 years.
David Axe
31st July, 2008
The U.S. Air Force’s Iraq boss has drawn up plans to boost air power even as ground troops withdraw from the country, according to The New York Times:
The commander, Lt. Gen. Gary North, described a future approach that would rely on jet fighters and bombers to help ensure the safety of American troops who remain behind to train Iraqis as the number of allied ground combat troops decreased.
It’s not a new strategy. As the British gradually reduce their ground forces in southern Iraq, their aviation forces in the region have held the line.
But there’s a downside to the air-power approach. A recent “aviation surge” in Afghanistan has caused a spike in civilian casualties and sparked a major row between Kabul and Washington. Might a similar surge in Iraq do the same?

Obama, the prince of bait-and-switch

I interviewed a woman who had lost eight members of her family, including six children to a US bomb – but mass murder in Afghanistan isn’t news
On 12 July, the Times devoted two pages to Afghanistan. It was mostly a complaint about the heat. The reporter, Magnus Linklater, described in detail his discomfort and how he had needed to be sprayed with iced water. He also described the “high drama” and “meticulously practised routine” of evacuating another overheated journalist. For her US Marine rescuers, wrote Linklater, “saving a life took precedence over [their] security”. Alongside this was a report whose final paragraph offered the only mention that “47 civilians, most of them women and children, were killed when a US aircraft bombed a wedding party in eastern Afghanistan on Sunday”.

New trend in christianity, with anti-imperialist edge.
Christians in full rebellion Alibi.com
By Jim Scarantino
Jim Scarantino
Monks Chris Haw and Shane Claiborne urge Christians to rebel against the imperial state. You wouldn’t peg Chris Haw and Shane Claiborne as monks. Haw carries himself like a rock climber. Claiborne sports dreadlocks and quotes St. Francis and Gandhi with a hillbilly twang.
Yet Haw and Claiborne are indeed monks. These adherents of what is called New Monasticism live simply among the poor and forgotten at the “political fringes of empire.” Haw moved to the inner city of Camden, N.J. Claiborne lives across the Delaware River in the depressed Kensington section of Philadelphia. Read the rest of this entry »

President urges developing states to fight un bias
Compiled by Daily Star staff
Wednesday, July 30, 2008
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad issued a verbal double-whammy against world powers on Tuesday, saying that global powerbrokers were in decline – making way for a larger role for developing nations to play in the international arena – and hitting out against what he labeled bias by the UN Security Council.
“The great powers are in the process of decline. Their influence is waning. They have reached the end of their era, we are at the threshold of a new era,” he told a ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran.
“The major powers are on a descending course. The extent of their influence drops day by day. They are approaching the end of their era,” Ahmadinejad told the gathering. Read the rest of this entry »

Operation Sarkozy : how the CIA placed one of its agents at the presidency of the French Republic

Thierry Meyssan
|
One should judge Nicolas Sarkozy according to his actions, and not according to his personality. Yet when his doings surprise even his own constituents, it is legitimate to take a detailed look at his biography and question the bonds that brought him to power. Thierry Meyssan has decided to write the truth about the French Republic’s president background. All the information included in this article is provable, except for two assertions signalled by the author who alone takes full responsibility.

I have said it before and I will say it again without any apologies. Even then, there are still some who are awestruck at the continued attempts by the West (read Britain and America) to make Zimbabwe Africa’s protracted battleground for their imperialistic and hegemonic interests.
