You need Uncle Sam, Iraq told

Posted by seumasach on July 25, 2008

“Both the Bush administration and the US military appear to harbor the illusion that the US troop presence in Iraq still confers effective political control over its clients in Baghdad.

However, the change in the Maliki regime’s behavior over the past six months, starting with the prime minister’s abrupt refusal to go along with General David Petraeus’ plan for a joint operation in the southern city of Basra in mid-March, strongly suggests that the era of Iraqi dependence on the US has ended.”

Asia Times
26th July, 2008
WASHINGTON – Instead of moving toward accommodating the demand of Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki for a timetable for United States military withdrawal, the George W Bush administration and the US military leadership are continuing to pressure their erstwhile client regime to bow to the US demand for a long-term military presence in the country.

Mercenary approach

Posted by seumasach on July 22, 2008

Journalist Eamonn McCann’s article,“Mercenary approach,” in the 10 August edition of Ireland’s current affairs magazine Village discusses the latest news in the ongoing struggle for justice for murdered Belfast man Peter McBride. Writes McCann:

katemc.wordpress.com

The mother of a teenager shot dead by British soldiers in Belfast has launched a campaign for an inquiry into the alleged killing of civilians by private consultants in Iraq. Jean McBride’s 18-year-old son, Peter McBride, was shot dead by members of the Scots Guards regiment in the New Lodge Road area in September 1992. The men’s commander, Lt Col Tim Spicer, now heads the company at the centre of the Iraq allegations.

Iraqi police said American forces broke into a home in Baiji district north of Tikrit in Salahaddin province, opened direct fire on the residents, shooting dead the 17-year-old son of the governor of the province and another relative, and wounding three other people who were sleeping. The official spokesperson for the province described this as a “criminal operation by any standard” and demanded an investigation and punishment of the killers. The governor told his office to suspend its administrative activities and any cooperation with the American forces.

Their English is getting better; however, what follows is my own rendition of a few paragraphs toward the end of the address in which Douri mentions other groups, and resistance strategy generally:

Mugabe threatens to seize foreign firms over sanctions

Posted by seumasach on July 21, 2008

There are two sides two economic warfare, especially as multipolarity emerges. Countries like Zimbabwe are no longer entirely dependant on the West. Notice that there is still massive British and Western investment in Zimbabwe: they have no moral scruples about exploiting the country -they just want all of it.

Wire Dispatch

20th July, 2008

Zimbabwe will transfer ownership of all foreign-owned firms that support Western sanctions against President Robert Mugabe’s government to locals and investors from “friendly” countries, a state newspaper reported on Sunday

Kosovo: Bush Should Press Thaci on Human Rights, Human Rights Watch

Posted by seumasach on July 21, 2008

Yes, everyone knows that Kosovo is run by the pimping, drug trafficing terrorists of the KLA and that, equally, US/UK and EU policy rests on backing them to the hilt. Reform would seem a long shot but just how bad things are is clear from the fact that the likes of HRW feel obliged to draw attention to the situation.

Serbian Unity

21st July, 2008

Washington, DC, 18 July 2008 – President George W. Bush should use his meeting with Kosovo’s prime minister to press for improvements to its poor human rights record, Human Rights Watch said today.
