It seems that in Europe, ad hoc policy such as France and England’s naval bandwagoning with the American armada in the Persian Gulf has replaced rational defense strategies that could entertain an Iranian-European security debate and even cooperation.
Exactly. Britain and France have effectively bounced Europe into another serious own-goal. Hopefully the defeat of Sarkozy in the coming elections will lead to Britain being finally frozen out of European security policy and the subsequent adoption of a saner and more constructive policy towards Iran.

On 4 February 2012, the media organizations of the War Party unanimously announced more than 200 deaths in Homs – a city “bleeding” -, the torture of children and “relentless” bombing. We are supposed to be witnessing the “most terrifying massacre” since the beginning of the “revolt“. Spontaneously, attacks were triggered during the night against the Syrian embassies in Washington, Cairo, Kuwait and London.

Contrary to her position at the time of the attack on Iraq, in the case of Syria France failed to defend the principles of international law, rallying instead the imperial camp and its lies. Together with the United Kingdom and the United States, she has suffered a diplomatic defeat of historic proportions, while Russia and China have become the champions of the sovereignty of peoples and peace. The new international balance of power is not only a consequence of the United States’ military decline, it is also a penalty for their falling prestige. Ultimately, Western powers have lost the leadership they enjoyed throughout the twentieth century, having forsaken all legitimacy by betraying their own values.

Every time NATO DMs meet on Afghanistan it’s a good bet that the plan is going to involve making the Afghan military even bigger. It has been a safe strategy, with the argument that it is making Afghanistan handle their own security woes.
