Armistice agreement withdrawal: North Korean belligerence?
Posted by seumasach on March 30, 2013
Stephen Gowans
18th March, 2013
Why has North Korea withdrawn from an armistice agreement that has kept overt hostilities on the Korean peninsula at bay since 1953? Does the withdrawal portend an imminent North Korean aggression? Hardly. North Korea is in no position to launch an attack on its Korean neighbour, or on the United States, at least not one that it would survive. North Korean forces are dwarfed by the US and South Korean militaries in size, sophistication and fire-power. The withdrawal serves, instead, as a signal of North Korean resolve to defend itself against growing US and South Korean harassment, both military and economic.

APNewsBreak: Report casts doubt on US missile shield in Europe protecting America
Posted by seumasach on February 16, 2013
A new missile defense system aimed at Russia could undermine the balance between the nuclear powers, leading Moscow to add to its arsenal and build up its own defenses. It would undermine prospects for further cuts in nuclear weapons, which are a priority for President Barack Obama, and could hurt U.S.-Russian cooperation on other issues of international importance.
Yes, Obama has the key to unlock the long-awaited peace dividend. In return for dismantling missile defence Obama can hope for much needed Russian and Chinese assistance in the rebuilding of America
9th February, 2013
WASHINGTON — Secret Defense Department studies cast doubt on whether a multibillion-dollar missile defense system planned for Europe can ever protect the U.S. from Iranian missiles as intended, congressional investigators say.

Posted by seumasach on January 20, 2013
Meanwhile, back in the Benighted Isle the government strives to keep anti-Russian enmity alive. We’ve had our final “we will rule the world” flourish, and now we’re sulking.

The Western Onslaught Against International Law

Paul Craig Roberts
28th August, 2012
A new film, “Compliance,” examines “the human desire to follow and obey authority.” Liberal institutions, such as the media, universities, federal courts, and human rights organizations, which have traditionally functioned as checks on the blind obedience to authority, have in our day gone over to power’s side. The subversion of these institutions has transformed them from checks on power into servants of power. The result is the transformation of culture from the rule of law to unaccountable authority resting on power maintained by propaganda.

America’s Long-standing Campaign to Destabilize Russia
Posted by seumasach on August 24, 2012
Eric Draitser
22nd August, 2012
The shootings and bombings in Ingushetia and Dagestan this week rekindled a long-standing, brutal campaign of violence and terrorism in Russia’s Caucasus region – one that has seen more than its share of terror stretching back to the Chechen “rebellion” of the 1990s. However, in examining the recent attacks, it becomes clear that there are political and geopolitical interests behind the scenes that are actively working to destabilize Russia, with violence as their most potent weapon. The attacks are not simply isolated terrorist actions, but rather, cynically orchestrated events carried out by well-connected criminal networks whose goal is to foment conflict and carry out the agenda of the US intelligence establishment in its subversion of Russia.

Syrie : François Hollande réussit l’exploit de ressusciter un mort à Paris [vidéos].
Posted by seumasach on July 7, 2012
Our man in the Elysee! William Hague will be overjoyed to find in Francois Hollande continuity with the Atlanticist foreign policy of Sarkozy. He can take heart that without an independent foreign policy Euroland is going nowhere and London and Washington can perpetually replay a cold war against Russia and China.
7th July, 2012

A history of the world, BRIC by BRIC

28th April, 2012
Goldman Sachs – via economist Jim O’Neill – invented the concept of a rising new bloc on the planet: BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa). Some cynics couldn’t help calling it the “Bloody Ridiculous Investment Concept.”
Not really. Goldman now expects the BRICS countries to account for almost 40% of global gross domestic product (GDP) by 2050, and to include four of the world’s top five economies.

Norway: NATO Rehearses For War In The Arctic
Posted by seumasach on April 23, 2012
Rick Rozoff
23rd April, 2012
To the world’s military leaders, the debate over climate change is long over. They are preparing for a new kind of Cold War in the Arctic, anticipating that rising temperatures there will open up a treasure trove of resources and long-dreamed-of sea-lanes. Rick Rozoff scrutinizes the feverish military activity taking place in the High North, under the official label of a joint Norwegian-NATO-Partnership for Peace endeavor, including preparedness drills against terrorist threats, mass demonstrations…and spies coming in from the cold!
The largest military exercise in the High North, inside and immediately outside the Arctic Circle, since the end of the Cold War (and perhaps even before) was completed on March 21 in northern Norway.
