Iran rejects French warning it risks Israeli strike

TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iran dismissed on Saturday a warning by France’s president that the Islamic Republic was taking a dangerous gamble over its nuclear program because one day its arch-foe Israel could strike.

Moscow against any new anti-Iran resolution: envoy

TEHRAN (IRNA) — Russian Ambassador to Tehran Alexander Sadovnikov said on Saturday that Moscow has never sought any new resolution against Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.

Talking to IRNA, he expressed the hope that Iran’s all-out cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency would help find a logical and realistic solution to the issue.

Iran says launches first home-built satellite

TEHRAN (AFP) — Iran said it successfully launched its first domestically produced satellite into orbit on Sunday, a move that could further exacerbate tensions with the West over its nuclear drive.
“President (Mahmoud) Ahmadinejad was at the lanch of the communications satellite Omid (Hope) from Iran’s space station,” government spokesman Gholamhossein Elham said, according to the Fars news agency.
“It was launched into space on his order,” it added.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad issued a verbal double-whammy against world powers on Tuesday, saying that global powerbrokers were in decline – making way for a larger role for developing nations to play in the international arena – and hitting out against what he labeled bias by the UN Security Council.

“The great powers are in the process of decline. Their influence is waning. They have reached the end of their era, we are at the threshold of a new era,” he told a ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) in Tehran.

“The major powers are on a descending course. The extent of their influence drops day by day. They are approaching the end of their era,” Ahmadinejad told the gathering. Read the rest of this entry »
