13th January, 2012
BERLIN (Dow Jones)–German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble Friday downplayed the significance of a possible downgrade by Standard & Poor’s of France and Austria.
“In recent months, we have grown to agree worldwide that we shouldn’t overrate the assessments of rating agencies,” Schaeuble is quoted as saying on the RTL television broadcaster. “It’s not new that there is a great uncertainty in financial markets regarding the euro zone,” he added.
He was speaking on the sidelines of an election rally in the Northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein.
