On Friday the pound fell 0.2pc against the euro to hit a ten-month low of 1.192, while it fell for the six-consecutive day against the dollar, down 0.4pc to 1.592.

George Osborne: ‘It is my job to tell the truth’

George Osbourne today dismissed criticism that he lacked judgment in predicting a run on the pound, insisting it was his job to tell “the truth about the British economy”.
