Sam’s Exchange: Tear down that wall

Posted by seumasach on February 25, 2011

RAI Novosti

23rd February, 2011

The wall is collapsing. Just like the Berlin wall came down in 1989, today we are seeing the collapse of the petrodollar wall across the oil producing nations of the Arab world. The petrodollar wall, unlike the Berlin wall, is not physical but a system of exchange. It is a system which exchanges oil for dollars, and dollars for security. It is a function of a uni-polar world, and given we are in a paradigm shift to a multi-polar world, the petrodollar wall no longer serves its purpose. The purpose of the so-called petrodollar wall was to ensure the dollar as the world’s reserve currency, and the accepted global system of exchange. With the drum beat for change in the global financial system beating ever louder, and the move to a new system of account away from the petrodollar wall, the pace at which regimes across the Arab world fall or change will increase. What will this mean for the price of oil?

Breaking the siege of Gaza is high priority for Egypt’s young revolutionaries

Posted by seumasach on February 24, 2011

Middle East Monitor

24th february, 2011

Young participants in the 25th January Egyptian revolution have told the Palestine Information Centre that Egypt has been freed from a tyrannical regime and breaking the siege of Gaza is high on their list of priorities. Ousting Hosni Mubarak was difficult, they said, but it was just the beginning of the revolution, not the end. In Tahrir Square, they added, all sections of Egyptian society were united, including Muslims and Christians; leftists and members of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Global systemic crisis / World geopolitical breakup – End of 2011: Fall of the “Petro-dollar wall” and a major monetary-oil shock for the United States

LEAP 2020

16th February, 2011

With this issue our team is celebrating two important anniversaries in anticipation terms. Exactly five years ago, in February 2006, the GEAB N°2 suddenly encountered worldwide success by announcing the next “Triggering of a major global crisis” characterized especially by “The end of the West as we have known it since 1945”. And exactly two years ago, in February 2009, in theGEAB N°32, LEAP/E2020 anticipated the start of global geopolitical dislocation phase by the end of that same year. In both cases, it is important to note that the undeniable interest aroused by these anticipations at international level, measurable particularly by millions of people reading the related public announcements, has been matched only by mainstream media silence over these same analyses and the fierce opposition (on the internet) of the vast majority of economic, financial or geopolitical experts and specialists.

Egypt is no longer committed to an alliance with Israel against Iran

Posted by seumasach on February 20, 2011

Haaretz

20th February, 2011

A year and a half ago, an Israel Navy submarine crossed the Suez Canal on its way from Haifa to the Red Sea, where it conducted an exercise, and back. The unusual voyage reflected the growing strategic cooperation between Israel and Egypt, which aimed a menacing message at Iran. The submarine’s crossing of the waterway demonstrated how quickly Israel could deploy its deterrent near Iran’s shores, with the tacit support of Egypt.

Israeli FM threatens war with Iran over Suez warship claim

Financial markets the world over are in turmoil and Brent North Sea Crude has reached a new short-term high today after Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman accused Iran of planning to send two warships through the Suez Canal later this evening and suggested this could provoke an Israeli attack on the nation.

The plans hadn’t been widely publicized until today, and Iran’s state media is so far mum on the allegation, but Lieberman insisted that two Iranian warships would pass through the canal later this evening on their way to Syria. The ships are reportedly planning to remain docked in Syria for one year.

Which is unusual, but not entirely shocking since Iran and Syria are allies. Lieberman, whose threats came in an email statement, insisted that the plan to send the ships proved that the Iranian government’s “insolence” is growing.

Though the threat appeared to be taken all too seriously in financial circles, it should be pointed out that Lieberman tends to make idle threats and his influence on Israeli foreign policy appears to be extremely minimal. Likewise, it doesn’t seem the two warships could even theoretically pose an offensive threat to Israel, though they might well be offered as defensive backup if, as is often threatened, Israel starts new wars in the region

Egypt’s revolution will not go home, youth groups say

Posted by seumasach on February 17, 2011

Al-Ahram

17th February, 2011

As a host of goups, youth movements and organizations, created before, during or after the outbreak of the 25 Januaray Revolution, rush to expand and develop their organizational and political capacities, there seems to be a consensus among them that the ousting of former President Hosni Mubarak is merely a beginning, and insist that the revolution’s goals are still to be realized. Foremost on their agendas is the abolishing of the infamous 30-year-long state of emergency, the immediate release of all political prisoners, full freedom to form political parties and trade unions, and the formation of a national unity government of independents and technocrats that excludes the former ruling National Democratic Party.
