Phone mast sparks fears in Killybegs

Residents, an elected representative and a doctor are worried that an O2 mobile phone mast in Killybegs is affecting the health of locals.

They’re so concerned that they arranged a meeting with a representative from the company on Tuesday night. However, the meeting ended without agreement and the mast is still atop the Bay View Hotel.

For a day it seemed Sudhir Kasliwal had won the battle. The Jaipur jeweller, who had been
campaigning to move cell phone towers out of residential areas, was relieved when Jaipur city authorities took note of THE WEEK’s report on the impact of mobile towers (‘Wave of worry’, March 11) and shut down operations; only to be restarted the next day.

No probe on cancer scare garda mast

GARDAI have not carried out any investigation into a possible link between a radio mast erected on a Dublin station and the high instances of cancer in the immediate area.

Locals living near Ronans-town Garda Station were under the impression that senior gardai had ordered an inquiry into potential links between the masts and the fact that nine officers based there have suffered brain cancer.

But the Herald has learned that no such investigation has taken place.

TV star Jasper slams masts as “criminal”

TV celebrity Jasper Carrott branded a controversial phone mast site in Kingswinford “criminal” after viewing the eyesore for himself.

The comedian called at the High Acres estate to lend his voice to a campaign calling for a water tower which is home to 18 antennae to be pulled down amid health fears.
