Dark spots, some as large as 50,000 miles in diameter, typically move across the surface of the sun, contracting and expanding as they go. These strange and powerful phenomena are known as sunspots, but now they are all gone. Not even solar physicists know why it’s happening and what this odd solar silence might be indicating for our future.

On June 9, 1999, the 78-day war that NATO waged on what was then Yugoslavia came to a close. Representatives of Yugoslav military and NATO signed an armistice in the Macedonian town of Kumanovo, paving the way for NATO’s takeover of the province. At the time, it was spun in the West as a victory for the Alliance – Yugoslav president Milosevic “caved” and “capitulated,” and his army was “forced” from Kosovo. Yet on paper, it was a defeat; Serbia had resisted ten times longer than anyone in Washington or Mons expected, and the terms of the Kumanovo treaty were much better for Belgrade than the disgraceful Rambouillet ultimatum, which NATO sought to impose at the beginning of the bombing. What was to be a purely NATO occupation became a UN mission (UNMIK) and Serbia’s territorial integrity was explicitly guaranteed by the UN resolution 1244.

British bees may go extinct

This video is testimony to the frivolity and light-mindedness which informs the British approach to this issue. It talks of losses rising to 12% of colonies, a figure scarcely above normal winter losses. Then the figure is 20%: still hardly enough to justify the claim that bees might die out. Other sources put the losses at 50-80%: that would be an emergency and fits in with the observation that there are few bees, if any, to be seen. It looks like the British Beekeepers Association are trying to play this all down and, if so, that would be a highly irresponsible response to a crisis which threatens us all. The British government says there is no CCD (formerly, the very British “Marie Celeste Syndrome”): what are their sources if not the beekeepers themselves who have already reported CCD .

An earlier article by this author (“The Secret Bailout of JP Morgan”) summarized evidence presented by John Olagues, an expert in options trading, suggesting that JPMorgan, far from “rescuing” Bear Stearns, was actually its nemesis.1 The faltering investment bank was brought down, not by “rumors,” but by insider trading based on a plan drawn up much earlier. The deal was a lucrative one for JPM, handing the Wall Street megabank $55 billion in loans from the Federal Reserve (meaning ultimately the U.S. taxpayer). So how did JPM get away with it? Olagues notes the highly suspicious fact that JPM’s CEO James Dimon sits on the Board of the New York Federal Reserve.
