TULLE (Agence France Presse) – In ordering the management of the French company RTE (responsible for the distribution of electricity) to pay almost 400,000 euros to cattle farmers, the courts have established for the first time that there is a link between the effects of electromagnetic radiation from a very high voltage power line and symptoms of disease among animals.

While the liberal intelligentsia was swooning over Barack Obama during his presidential campaign, I counseled “prepare to be disappointed.” His record as a Illinois state and U.S. Senator, together with the many progressive and long overdue courses of action he opposed during his campaign, rendered such a prediction unfortunate but obvious.

Reality had to raise its ugly head. Barack Obama was elected with overwhelming approval to inaugurate an era of change. And at his November 25 press conference, he said that his decisive victory gave him a mandate to change the direction in which America is moving. But his recent economic and foreign policy appointments make it clear that when he chose “change” as his campaign slogan, he was NOT referring to the financial, insurance and real estate (FIRE) sectors, nor to foreign policy. These are where the vested interests concentrate their wealth and power. And change already has been accelerating here. Unfortunately, its direction has been for the top 1% of America’s population to raise their share of in the returns to wealth from 37% ten years ago to 57% five years ago and an estimated nearly 70% today.

Woolworths Stores Enter Administration, Risking U.K. Jobs

Nov. 27 (Bloomberg) — Woolworths Group Plc appointed administrators for its chain of stores and MFI Retail Ltd. collapsed, putting almost 30,000 U.K. jobs at risk, as the economy’s slide caused consumer spending to slump.
Woolworths, which opened its first shop in 1909, had Deloitte appointed as administrators today after an attempt to sell the stores ended. MFI appointed administrators yesterday.
Retailers are under pressure as a spending slump hits the U.K. The government pledged 20 billion pounds ($30 billion) of loans and tax cuts this week to spur the economy. Home- improvement retailer Kingfisher Plc today said consumer confidence was “shaken,” while DSG International Plc, the largest consumer-electronics retailer in the country, scrapped its dividend. As we put it at the time: “I would imagine that full pressure is being exerted by the US/UK”. Could this be what “full pressure” amounted to?
It is evident that the anti-Russian propaganda in Poland reaches new heights. After the publicity campaign for the film “Katyn” (in the media I find a short information that all soldiers of Polish Army were compelled to see his film, as the part of their “cultural training”), the construction of the American “antimissile shield” become once again the propaganda tool, serving to stir both anti-Russian and anti-European emotions among common people. Only two weeks ago the newly elected in last September, Polish government was declaring officially its hardly concealed hostility towards this “shield” as the USA-owned, dangerous for Polish citizenry, military installation on Polish territory. And than suddenly, on the February 1st, Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Radek Sikorski (a member of the American Enterprise Institute, by the way) suddenly changed his mind and inclined, during his visit in Washington, to all pressures exercised by White House. This American “master of Eastern Europe” is wishing to establish in Poland not only the (anti)missile base, but also several subsequent, US Army owned, military bases. This supposedly in order to protect Poland from Russian hegemonistic drive.
