Hague’s call for Russia to resolve the crisis is an interesting one. Russia don’t share Hague’s line that Assad is behind these killings and suggest that Al Qaeda type elements are more likely responsible. The UN report hints that the massacre is connected to government bombardment but that doesn’t seem consistent with the injuries sustained. Russia doesn’t support Britain’s regime change agenda and is definitely not soft on Al Qaeda.
“It isn’t in the interests of Russia, it’s not in anyone’s interests, for Syria to descend into an even bloodier situation and into a full-scale civil war and that’s now the danger.”
If this is a threat designed to force Russia into removing Assad I suggest it is a futile one.

Before UN monitors even arrived in Houla, Syria, northwest of Homs and close to the Lebanese border where it is now admitted that militant extremists, cash, and weapons had been freely flowing for months, the US, UK, and France were already calling for the “international community” to move against the Syrian government, in the latest effort to justify further meddling in the Middle Eastern nation.
