The US’ increasingly unhinged rhetoric reached a new level of absurdity this week as US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called on Western nations and their Arab proxies to “make it clear that Russia and China will pay a price because they are holding up progress” in regards to the US’ premeditated campaign of terrorism and violent regime change in Syria.

Russia calls ‘Friends of Syria’ group ‘immoral’

Posted by seumasach on July 7, 2012

The “Friends of Syria” conference combines the hubris, imbecility and impotence of the West unable to come to terms with the rise of Russia, China and the Global South. The approach of Francois Hollande is particularly stupid given that he allegedly aims to forge a Euro-Brics alliance: despite being subject to a withering assault by Anglo-American finance Europe remains locked in to the hegemonic Anglo-American agenda. All Hollande has to do is to offer coherent support for the Annan Plan: does he really still have to play to the gallery of the senile French left?

A beneficial draw for the euro

6th July, 2012

In the end, Italy and Spain got what they wanted at the summit in Brussels: Spanish banks will be recapitalized directly by the EU’s emergency fund, sparing Spain greater public debt and raising the hope that Madrid and Rome’s borrowing costs will drop. With last Friday’s decision, Europe can hope that at last the markets will believe that the eurozone’s members will protect their common currency as well as their own economies — something that was not evident from the moment that the Greek crisis broke out. Now we need to learn how much the European banks will be under the control of a central, European mechanism. In other words, we must see the extent to which Germany achieved its goal of the eurozone exerting greater central control over its members’ economies.
