NEW YORK – Now that the dust of the eight-day Gaza war has settled, the war’s shift of geostrategic fortune in favor of Hamas’s Iranian military patron state is rather unmistakable. Israeli leaders may publicly boast of inflicting heavy damage to Hamas’s rocket capability, yet the fact remains that they failed to reach their ultimate objective of dismantling that capability, which is sure to be replenished and strengthened in the months to come.

It is symptomatic of the national condition of the United States that the worst humiliation ever suffered by it as a nation, and by a US president personally, passed almost without comment last week. I refer to the November 20 announcement at a summit meeting in Phnom Penh that 15 Asian nations, comprising half the world’s population, would form a Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership excluding the United States.

I strongly advise anyone seeking background and analysis on the Syria conflict to read this study in its entirety
The dynamics of the crisis in Syria. Conflict Versus conflict resolution
Dr. Christof Lehmann
NSNBC
24th October, 2012
– After 19 months of violent conflict in Syria a feasible solution seems farther removed than ever. The influx of fundamentalist Salafist or Wahabist fighters which have been streaming to Syria since the failure of two major Free Syrian Army assaults on Aleppo in June and July 2012 made it increasingly difficult to build a coherent and credible Syrian political and military opposition among the proponents of regime-change. The international anti Syrian alliance has difficulties in identifying a political or military opposition that could be used as an argument for regime change. The Turkish-Syrian conflict risks to spiral out of control with potentially catastrophic consequences for Syria, Turkey, Lebanon and the region. After the violence has begun spreading into Turkey and Lebanon, increasing the risk of a regional war with potentially global bearing, the containment of the crisis is becoming increasingly difficult. The international community is as divided as the Syrian opposition. The pressure is on all sides to resolve the crisis. Opinions about how to solve the crisis differ widely. The article offers the necessary analysis, suggests possible solutions and the potential consequences of a protracted and widening conflict.

A LOBBYIST FOR SHELL AT THE HEAD OF THE SYRIAN NATIONAL COALITION
Thierry Meyssan
Voltairenet
23rd November, 2012
Completely unkown to the international public only a week ago, Sheikh Moaz al-Khatib has been catapulted to the presidency of the Syrian National Coalition, which represents pro-Western opposition in the Damascus government. Portrayed by an intense public relations campaign as a highly moral personality with no partisan or economic attachments, he is in truth a member of the Muslim Brotherhood and an executive of the Shell oil company.

The subdued nature of Cairo’s underground was interrupted Friday when the train stopped at the station located in the iconic Tahrir Square. A man in his 30s was berating Egypt President Mohamed Morsi with little opposition from passengers.

Catching the tumult of a revolution on camera is virtually impossible — especially a revolution like the one Egypt which rolls on with no end in view. Another revolution in revolution is unfolding. The Chinese cameramen have caught some fantastic visuals as the banks of the Nile begin to heave again with seamless human passions. The Xinhua photo album is here.

Hamas leader Meshaal’s thanks to Iran for its crucial military support to Gaza is one of the most striking and unlikely responses to Israel’s failed offensive. Indeed, its the response that most underlines their failure. Israel would have sought to consolidate Hamas’ reorientation away from Syria and the Axis of Resistance and help to cohere a Muslim Brotherhood block amenable to Zionist and Western interests.
