EU decision to ease embargo on Syria emboldens al-Qaeda

Posted by seumasach on April 23, 2013

The EU scored a spectacular own-goal in supporting the bombing of Yugoslavia and the KLA. Does it ever learn? It is disingenious to claim that the insurgency in Syria is in any way about bringing democracy: the democratic elements within the Syrian opposition do not support armed struggle against Assad. Europe is supporting terrorism pure and simple and seems to be blind to the dangers of such madness.

A political commentator tells Press TV that a decision by the European Union to ease its embargo on Syria will embolden the al-Qaeda terrorists and subsequently create mayhem in the region.

Car bomb explodes at French embassy in Libya

Posted by seumasach on April 23, 2013

“Libya’s new rulers are still struggling to impose their authority on a country awash with weapons and a myriad of armed militias who often do as they please.’

The term “blowback” is much abused but is certainly applicable here: the destruction of the Libyan state carried out by an alliance between NATO, with France to the fore,Qatar and Al Qaida -type elements created the conditions in which anyone can use terrorism to advance their agenda. It is all very well for Hollande to claim “excellent’ relations with the Libyan authorities but their writ does not run very far.

Al Jazeera

23rd April, 2013

France’s embassy in Libya was hit by what appeared to be a car bomb on Tuesday, injuring two guards in the first such attack in the Libyan capital since the 2011 war that ousted Muammar Gaddafi.

Forceful call on Obama to rethink Iran sanctions

Posted by seumasach on April 21, 2013

“It flags that the US and Iranian intelligence should partner in counterterrorism activities directed against Al-Qaeda, since both countries have been victims of terrorism.”

M.K.Bhadrakumar

Indian Punchline

20th April, 2013

In the past week, the discourse within the United States regarding the policy towards Iran swung notably toward the argument favouring the diplomatic option. Two influential reports contributed to this — one by the United States government and the other, arguably more prestigious, by a galaxy of America’s best-known diplomatists, strategic thinkers and Iran specialists.

Syria: Christian church destroyed

SYRIA: THE CAPUCHIN CHURCH IN DEIR EZZOR IS HIT

Order of Capuchin Friars

April, 2013

DEIR EZZOR, Syria – “There was an explosion near our church in Deir Ezzor that destroyed it,” writes Br. Antoine Haddad, Viceprovincial Minister of Lebanon, in a message to us. The news was picked up by the media because the two Capuchin friars who lived there, with the help of the Lebanese and Syrian International Red Cross, and the nuncios of Lebanon and Syria, left with the Sisters of Mother Teresa and about ten seniors who lived in our place. They were the last remaining Christians in the area to leave. The church was completely destroyed, but until now it was not possible to know if the friary was hit or not, because there are no longer any Christians in Deir Ezzor, apart from one who returned because he lived in the ‘quieter’ area of the city. His attempts to get to the scene did not succeed because of intense gunfire. Until recently, our church of Deir Ezzor was the only one left almost intact. But then a few months ago there was a video on YouTube in which you could see the church with the door and side wall gutted and soldiers entering.
