Saudi Arabia has threatened to blockade its neighbouring Gulf State Qatar by land and sea unless it cuts ties with the Muslim Brotherhood, closes Al Jazeera, and expels local branches of two prestigious U.S. think tanks, the Brookings Doha Center and the Rand Qatar Policy Institute.

A public statement was made by the former head of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus. He called the actions of Vladimir Putin “rational.” Vaclav Klaus believes that the U.S. and the European Union provoked the current tragic situation in Ukraine. “People in Ukraine do not deserve the games being played with their country. This reminds me of Yugoslavia 20 years ago,” Klaus told reporters in the Czech city of Brno, commenting on the Ukrainian crisis. He said that a tragic bloody conflict was provoked in Yugoslavia from outside. He added that he was afraid that something similar was starting in Ukraine.
Czech Republic’s awkward position over Crimea

The longer the European politicians think about the events in Ukraine, the more they begin to support the president of Russia. The Czech president said that the events in Crimea could have been much less dramatic if it had not been for the “Kosovo precedent.” Czech Republic’s ruling party does not approve anti-Russian sentiments in the country and is collecting signatures against the Maidan.

General Martin Dempsey, US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, gave a lengthy interview to Judy Woodruff on Friday night’s PBS News Hour and delivered a carefully balanced picture of how the U.S. military is managing the unfolding Ukraine crisis, both reassuring European NATO allies that treaty obligations will be honored, while maintaining constant communications with Russian counterparts, to assure there are no miscalculations leading to conflict. Gen. Dempsey, clearly aware of the boundaries between military advice and political decision-making, did not attempt to under-play the danger of conflict, particularly given the occupant of the White House.

The appointed by Verkhovna Rada Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has signed an order to dismiss three deputies of Ukraine’s defense minister as they opposed to giving the Right Sector militants the status of regular military units. A source in the Ukrainian government said this to Itar-Tass. “Yatsenyuk dismissed first deputy defense minister Alexander Oleynik,” the source specified. “Deputies defense minister Vladimir Mozharovskiy and Arturo Francisco Babenko were also dismissed.”
