Posted by seumasach on September 10, 2008

“The host for the debate stressed that this landmark telecast did not imply that the Kremlin administration of President Medvedev and Prime Minister Putin was officially espousing any particular point of view concerning 9/11, but rather reflected a commitment to free and open debate.”

How I love that Russian sense of humour!

In an interview with German news agency dpa, Chiesa, a European parliamentary deputy, said Russian television is to give prime time airing to his film on the eve of this week’s seventh anniversary of the attacks in New York and Washington.

Russian diplomacy is clearly widening its scope to exposing the underbelly of US foreign policy including 9/11.

Czech president blames Georgia for military conflict in Caucasus

Posted by seumasach on September 9, 2008

The end is approaching for the empire

TOKYO, September 8 (Itar-Tass) – President of the Czech Republic Vaclav Klaus has put the blame on Georgia for the military conflict in the Caucasus. He made this statement in an interview published by the Yomiuri newspaper on Monday.

“Georgia was the first to attack South Ossetia,” stressed the Czech leader. He also called against presenting Russia negatively. “It would be a tragic mistake to picture Russia as a villain and again divide the world in two,” the Czech president stated. “Russia is not the former Soviet Union,” he added.

Touching upon the recognition by Russia of South Ossetia and Abkhazia as independents states Klaus noted that such Russia’s step was caused by the recognition of Kosovo by the West. “If there had been no Kosovo, not independence recognition would have taken place,” he noted.

Vaclav Klaus is in the Japanese capital as a scientist-economist to participate in an international scientific forum conducted by the Yomiuri newspaper.

The windfall that never was

Callender

7th September, 2008

“The smell of death around this government is so overpowering it seems to have anaesthetised them all.” Polly Toynbee, Guardian, 6th September

Last November I warned against the consequences of the baiting of Gordon Brown warning that British oligarchy was intent of neutering government itself. That aspiration is now fully realized. Brown is still there despite his manifest impotence or rather because of it. The executive of the state power is there to be steamrolled and Brown has shown that he is permanent fall-guy material. How many other candidates are there for such a dubious distinction? The flickerings of rebellion fade without gathering momentum and nostalgia for El Caudillo, Blair, is back. Even Milliband’s flirtation with a war on the old enemy, Russia, hasn’t given him even a semblance of the stature of a national leader.

Perhaps that’s because Britain is hardly a nation; rather the rump of parasitic empire which has taken to feeding off its own corpse. Leading the way in this macabre business are the energy utilities, the beneficiaries of the introduction of the sacred principle of competition; competition for the lion’s share of what’s left, a battle in which no quarter is given least of all to the hapless figure of a British prime minister trying to save himself and his party from ignominy and ultimate oblivion. They continue to hike prices relentlessly reducing broad swathes of the population to poverty whilst paying out ever greater dividends. Read the rest of this entry »
