SBU: all non-state paramilitary structures must be disarmed

The head of the security service of Ukraine Valentyn Nalyvaichenko emphasizes the need to disarm all paramilitary structures unrelated to the Armed forces or law enforcement agencies of Ukraine.
“Now the time has come and military leadership, and the leadership of the Ministry of internal Affairs, and the management of the SBU to take care of the ATO soldiers, providing them with appropriate legal status, the opportunity to enter legally in the composition of the legitimate armed forces: the Armed forces of Ukraine, Ministry of interior, the national guard or security service”, said Mr. Nalyvaichenko Tuesday night in the channel 5.
He said: “Everyone else who doesn’t want to log in as a member of the armed forces, police, national guard, security service) must surrender their weapons and to choose a different model of behavior is to leave the area ATO, moreover, not to create and not be part of any illegal military or paramilitary associations.
“We take seriously the fact that were disarmed before the end and disbarred those structures that are involved or are part of a well-coordinated gangs”, added Mr. Nalyvaichenko.

Russia has chosen to sidestep the provocative resolution passed with an overwhelming majority of 348 to 48 by the US Congress on Monday urging President Barack Obama to send lethal weapons to Ukraine. Of course, Obama himself would ignore it.

It’s been one year since European sanctions were first enacted against Russia on 17 March, 2014, and it’s worthy to briefly highlight their consequences on Moscow. Likewise, the counter-sanctions that Russia imposed on the EU last summer must also be critically looked at in order to assess the economic and political impact of the ‘sanctions war’ on both parties. The results are certainly not at all what the West had anticipated.

The Nezavisimaya Gazeta writes that the U.S. and the EU no longer have the same viewpoint regarding the future of sanctions against Russia. High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini has doubted the effect of sanctions and said that the EU should overcome its Cold War approaches in relation to Russia. At the same time, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier remarked that the search for a political solution in eastern Ukraine will last decades, but the West is not obliged to be in conflict with Russia all this time.

WASHINGTON — The United States and the European Union are unlikely to widen economic sanctions on Russia if a tentative cease-fire emerging in eastern Ukraine takes hold, Western diplomats said on Friday.

Despite repeatedly saying that new U.S. or EU sanctions on Russia as well as U.S. lethal assistance for Ukraine remain on the table, neither Europe nor the United States would be eager to go forward if this week’s fragile calm is sustained, they added.

Russia’s Ruble rebounds
