EU’s new sanctions against Russia delayed

Posted by seumasach on September 9, 2014

Apparently, it doesn’t occur to the Europeans that their own actions have an influence on the course of the ceasefire. By continuing to target Russia they may embolden Right Sector deadenders.

The News

9th September, 2014

The EU’s ambassadors agreed on the new restrictions last Friday in Newport, Wales, and the sanctions were due to be approved on Monday so that they would come into force on Tuesday. However, the representatives of some countries argued that the enforcement should be pushed back in the light of the ceasefire announced in eastern Ukraine.

Game, set and match to Russia

Posted by seumasach on September 6, 2014

Cailean Bochanan

6th September, 2014

The unfolding events in Ukraine are of world-historic significance and the West has responded as unconscious players do: with a stunned silence and the delusion of business as usual. In one fell swoop the entire Western narrative on Ukraine has fallen apart.

EU, US push ahead with sanctions against Russia despite ceasefire

Posted by seumasach on September 6, 2014

By supporting further sanctions the EU leadership are effectively inviting the anti-Russian forces in Ukraine, who they have backed from the start, to break the ceasefire. They are being grossly irresponsible and further tarnishing their reputation in the eyes of the wider world.

SBS

6th September, 2014

The sanctions tighten existing measures imposed in July, targeting more individuals with travel bans and asset freezes, as well as tightening access to capital markets for Russian oil and defence companies.

European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and European Commission chief Jose Manuel Barroso said in a letter to European leaders that the new measures were an “effective tool” to “reinforce the principle that EU sanctions are directed at promoting a change of course in Russia’s actions in Ukraine”.

Ukraine, EU to ratify Association Agreement simultaneously

Posted by seumasach on September 4, 2014

First, they tried to sign the AA with the legal government, then they tried to sign it with the illegal government which they had installed via a coup d’etat. Now they are trying to sign it with a government which has just lost a war against part of its own population, whose neo-nazi front line troops have sworn to overthrow it, whose national army has disintegrated and which will preside over a de facto partition of the the country if it continues to reject a negotiated peace settlement. All this so that the respective parties can save some face and continue to maintain the completely false story they have been putting out through their completely controlled media. The EU cannot get much lower than this and if it continues to exhibit this kind of political ineptitude, fruit of a political class completely in tow to Anglo-American interests, it will collapse. The problem in Europe is not so much the economy or the common currency but the crisis in direction and in the absence of an independent political leadership.

Euroactiv

4th September, 2014

The European Parliament and Ukraine will ratify the country’s Association Agreement (AA) simultaneously, during the 15-18 September session, EurActiv has learned. The signing of the AA led to the conflict currently under way between Ukraine and Russia.

West reneges on Ukraine agreements

Posted by seumasach on September 4, 2014

Ukraine, the USA and the EU felt they could ignore existing agreements as regime forces pushed East. Now that these forces have been defeated and are being pushed West, they still think they can ignore agreements. But the agreements could help to avoid further humiliation in the form of further defeats, the exposure of the role of fascist and Western mercenary forces in the conflict and possible revolution in Kiev. The West is now in total disarray, substituting fantasy and bluff and bluster for coherent  attempts to find solutions to problems of its own making. If they think their behavior goes unnoticed they are mistaken: the whole is taking cognizance of the amateurism and unreliability of the West and taking steps to protect themselves from its erratic policies. At the same time, we in the West need to urgently rethink our whole approach since we need the emerging world to help us avoid the worst in the coming economic collapse.
