“We are very angry, very afraid, very sad, very upset. My wife, she is depressed. When she sees police in the street she’s very frightened. They destroyed our life,” says Badi Tebani.
In January 2009, Tebani’s teenage son Yahia was one of tens of thousands of people who joined demonstrations in London against the Israeli bombing of Gaza. At one of those demonstrations Yahia and many others were “kettled” — surrounded by a police cordon and slowly let out in return for giving their names and addresses and for being filmed.

Meanwhile, according to some sources Israel’s atomic arsenal is being aimed at European capitals. This is logical: Israel recognises that Europe will not always continue to act as a vassal of the US and is likely, at some point. to throw in its weight behind the Palestinians.

The European Parliament adopted during its Wednesday session a decision calling for implementing the recommendations of the Goldstone report on Gaza war, in preparation to present the resolution to the 13th session of the United Nations’ Human Rights Council which will be held in Geneva by the end of March [1].

Paris, France, February 23, 2010 (Pal Telegraph) – French President Nicolas Sarkozy has reiterated his call for the creation of a “viable” Palestinian state but has not ruled out the possibility the international community could recognise a new state before its borders were set.

Rami G. Khouri
Middle-East Online
19th January, 2010
Several symbolic or rhetorical gestures in recent weeks indicate that the European Union wants at least to raise its voice and its profile on Arab-Israeli peace-making. But to have impact it must transcend verbal commitments or admonitions and venture into the realm of actions and sanctions, argues Rami G. Khouri.

Uri Avnery
Redress
8th November, 2009
Uri Avnery argues that Barack Obama’s betrayal of his promise to seek a just resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has shown that he is absolutely no different from George W. Bush, and that is why Palestinian National Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has decided not to stand in the next Palestinian elections.
“…the Obama administration has shown by its actions and omissions that it is not really different from the administration of George W. Bush.
“Not only has Obama given up his claim to a complete change in US policy, but he is actually continuing the policy of Bush. And since Obama pretends to be the opposite of Bush, this is double treachery.”
Mahmoud Abbas is fed up. The day before yesterday [5 November] he withdrew his candidacy for the coming presidential election in the Palestinian Authority.
I understand him.

Richard Falk

9th October, 2009
In dissecting the Goldstone Report, Richard Falk points to a number of limitations and pitfalls which he himself would undoubtedly have averted. He nevertheless acclaims the report as an historic milestone in the struggle for Palestinian justice, which has already shaken Israel’s pedestal of impunity. As the power cards in the region are being reshuffled, it remains to be seen just how far-reaching its impact will really be. But, as it is, the “before and after” line has already been drawn.
