Saudi Arabia Finances Israel’s Offensive.

Posted by seumasach on January 12, 2009

[The Israeli attack on Gaza has been prepared long in advance. The decision to activate it was taken in response to the nominations for office of the new Obama administration. Washington’s strategic shifts are unfavourable to Tel-Aviv’s expansionist agenda. Israel has tried to force the hand of the incoming presidentby presenting him with a fait-accompli. But, in order to organise this operation , Israel has had to rely on new military partners, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, who now constitute a paradoxal Arab Zionist axis. Riyad finances the war whilst, reveals Meyssan, Cairo organises the paramilitaries]

Israel uses phosphorus shells as smokescreen for troops

Robert Mendick, Chief Reporter
05.01.09
ISRAELI forces are using white phosphorus shells which can cause horrific burns, it was claimed today.

The weapon, seen above over the northern Gaza strip, provides cover to advancing ground troops by creating a huge smokescreen, shielding soldiers from incoming fire. Phosphorous shells can also illuminate large areas when used at night. It is highly flammable and ignites on contact with oxygen. If it hits someone’s body, it will burn until deprived of oxygen.

Israel accused of using illegal white phosphorus shells in Gaza

Posted by seumasach on January 12, 2009

The phosporus that the Israelis deny using is the the stuff you see on Newsnight, the rather spectacular white  plumes.

Telegraph

11th January, 2009

White phosphorus is an incendiary material that causes severe burns when it comes in contact with human skin and its use in conflict zones is restricted inside civilian areas. Syria called on the UN to investigate the claim.

Human Rights Watch said its researchers witnessed the use of the materiel on Saturday and Sunday in Gaza City and Jabalia refugee camps, both built-up areas.

The Israeli military, which refuses to comment on the types of munitions it is using in the conflict, rejected the accusations. “There is no use of white phosphorus,” a spokeswoman said. “Everything we use is according to international law,” Marc Garlasco, senior military analyst at Human Rights Watch said: “Israel should not use it in Gaza’s densely populated areas.”

Who will save Israel from itself?

Aljazeera

12th January, 2009

One by one the justifications given by Israel for its latest war in Gaza are unravelling.

The argument that this is a purely defensive war, launched only after Hamas broke a six-month ceasefire has been challenged, not just by observers in the know such as Jimmy Carter, the former US president who helped facilitate the truce, but by centre-right Israeli intelligence think tanks.
