Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hassan Qashqavi on Monday said when hostilities broke out in Gaza Tehran soon set out to help find ways to end the Zionist atrocities against the defenseless Palestinians.
“Iran has drawn on its capacity and potential, be it official or otherwise, regarding the crisis in Gaza,“ he told the weekly press briefing at the ministry.
Iran is continuing the diplomatic offensive for resolving the Gaza crisis, he noted.
“Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani will leave for Ankara on Tuesday for talks with Turkish officials. He will also attend a meeting of the Islamic parliamentary speakers in Istanbul on Wednesday.“
Echoing the stance of other senior officials in Tehran, Qashqavi complained that the UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution on the latest Israeli lawlessness came late.
“After two weeks of delay, and given the slaughter of innocent people in Gaza, UNSC Resolution 1860 is weak and insufficient,“ he noted.
Qashqavi recalled that America’s abstention in the rare vote, and the bill passed by the US Congress and Senate for fully supporting Israeli brutality indeed was a green light for the occupying power to continue its aggression against the Palestinians in Gaza.

Red Lines
Elsewhere in his remarks Qashqavi said the Hamas government is the most democratic in contemporary history of the Arab world.
“The red line of democracy in the western world is that Israeli interests should not be endangered,“ he said, and stressed that Israel had planned to dislodge Gaza a year and a half ago.
“The claim that Hamas ended the ceasefire is baseless and false.“
Regarding President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s message to some capitals calling for collaboration to push for intentional prosecution of Israel for the non-stop war crimes, he said the “Zionist criminals should be put on trial, and this is what the president said in his message.“
Commenting on Iran’s relief aid to Gaza, he said an Iranian ship carrying humanitarian aid would dock in Gaza port very soon.
“Iranian planes carrying aid will go to the region and we want the Egyptian government to cooperate with us,“ he said.

Appeal to Cairo
Letter Qashqavi recalled that Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki in a letter to his Egyptian counterpart, Ahmed Abul Gheit voiced Iran’s ability to set up a field hospital for the terrorized Gazans “but there has been no reply from him yet.“
Asked about reports that the US had agreed to embrace the additional protocol to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), he noted, “This is a politicized move by the US because the additional protocol is (only) for countries that do not have nuclear weapons. America has nuclear weapons.“
Condemning the self-appointed superpower for its arrogance and bullying tactics, he said the US is the biggest threat both to the world and the region. “It is at the forefront of threatening the human race because of its support for state terrorism,“ he said in clear reference to Washington’s blind support for Israeli crimes against civilians in the Palestinian territories.
Regarding a comment by US President-elect Barrack Obama on using the diplomatic circuit to settle US differences with the Islamic Republic, he said “We (will) take proper measures depending on the performance and attitude of the other side.“
