In These New Times

A new paradigm for a post-imperial world

Archive for the ‘Ecological and Public Health Crisis’ Category

The reckless depredations of corporate power and neo-Malthusian enthusiasts within the elite threaten our environment and our very survival. EM radiation, disappearing bees and pollinators, heavy metal toxicity, GM crops and soil depletion are amongst the most immediate dangers we face.

Re: Use of mobile phones and risk of brain tumours: update of Danish cohort study. Frei, et al. 343:doi:10.1136/bmj.d6387

In their introduction, Frei et al. [1] state: “So far, the mechanism of potential non-thermal interaction between radio frequency electromagnetic fields (EMFs) and living systems is unknown.” This statement does not concur with scientific knowledge.

A towering problem for birds and bees

Posted by seumasach on October 20, 2011

And so the whole world is one big animal experiment, with us included!

Times of India

KOCHI: They don’t use cell phones; yet they may be its worst victims. Next time you read a report on birds falling prey to radiation and consequently getting sick, you might as well guess that a cell phone tower could have caused it. It is not just humans but birds and bees too are beginning to feel the impact of ‘electro-smog’, the pollution from the electromagnetic fields (EMF).

Fukushima and the Battle for Truth

Posted by seumasach on October 5, 2011

Paul Zimmerman
27th September, 2011
Fukushima’s nuclear disaster is a nightmare. Ghostly releases of radioactivity haunt the Japanese countryside. Lives, once safe, are now beset by an ineffable scourge promising vile illness and death.

Large sectors of the population are accumulating significant levels of internal contamination, setting the stage for a public health tragedy.

A subtle increase in the number of miscarriages and fetal deaths will be the first manifestation that something is amiss. An elevated incidence of birth defects will begin in the Fall and continue into the indefinite future. Thyroid diseases, cardiac diseases and elevated rates of infant and childhood leukemia will follow. Over the next decade and beyond, cancer rates will soar.

Why our urban trees are dying

Posted by seumasach on October 4, 2011

Andrew Goldsworthy

Mast Sanity

2011

Trees are now dying mysteriously from a variety of diseases in urban areas all over Europe and are also showing abnormal photoperiodic responses. In addition, many have cancer-like growths under the bark (phloem nodules) and the bark may also split so that the underlying tissues become infected. All of these can be explained as being a result of weak radio-frequency radiation from mobile phones, their base stations, WiFi and similar sources of weak non-ionising radiation. But first let us look at how living organisms use electric currents that they generate themselves and which perform vital functions in their normal day-to-day metabolism and growth. We will then go on to see how weak electromagnetic fields can disrupt these and bring about many unwanted biological effects.

The Green Party is waging war against WiFi pollution, and Elizabeth May is leading by example.

Ms. May, who was the first Green candidate to win a seat in the House of Commons in the last election, took to Twitter on Wednesday lay out her concerns over “electromagnetic frequencies.” The Green Party’s main targets are so-called wireless “smart meters,” which are set to come into use in British Columbia to monitor the use of electricity.

Mobile Phones Damage the Brain

Posted by seumasach on July 26, 2011

6th July, 2011

Laboratory experiments show that electromagnetic fields from mobile phones destroy the blood brain barrier and damage neurons even 50 days after a single exposure in rats Dr. Mae-Wan Ho

Leif Salford at Lund University, Sweden, is head of an interdisciplinary team that has been studying the effects of EMFs on rat brain since 1988, with a major interest in the blood-brain barrier (BBB). In mammals including humans, the BBB protects the brain from potentially harmful compounds circulating in the blood, so normally, very little passes from the blood to the brain.
