Libya, Syria and the defeat of Western diplomacy

Westphalia (1648) set the principles, Helsinki (1975) laid the rules; in 1991, the playground bully started running amok, after subverting the terms of the Helsinki Final Act by a new form of imperialism in the 70s and 80s, using civilian populations as a means to create a casus belli or achieve a means to an end. The bottom line: Don’t trust them!

Syria: Vladimir Putin contemplates sending CSTO peacekeeping force

Posted by seumasach on June 4, 2012

Voltairenet

3rd June, 2012

The President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir V. Putin, plans to deploy a peacekeeping force to Syria to prevent a possible slide towards civil war [1]

Putin asked the Secretary General of the Organization of Collective Security Treaty (CSTO), Nikolai Bordyuzha, to make a proposal to this effect. This peaceful initiative is antithetical to the NATO military intervention envisaged by the West.

Mr. Bordyuzha immediately made it known that the CSTO is capable of deploying in Syria without delay a force of 20,000 well-trained “blue fur hats.” The CSTO is made up by Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

This force would be tasked to mediate between the national army and the armed opposition … and to detain foreign fighters. The U.S. Permanent Representative to the Security Council, Susan Rice, raised the possibility for NATO to intervene militarily in Syria without a UN mandate. Vladimir Putin has not indicated whether the CSTO peacekeeping force would act with or without a Security Council mandate.

‘UNHR resolution on Houla imbalanced, biased and beyond mandate’ – Russia

Posted by seumasach on June 3, 2012

RT

3rd June, 2012

Russian Foreign Ministry released a statement on Sunday denouncing the UN Human Rights resolution on Houla adopted in Geneva on June 1. “Russia, and also China and Cuba, voted against this resolution because the text of this document is imbalanced, biased and contains a number of one-sided assessments,” says the statement. “It denounces solely the Syrian government for the tragedy. But does not show any condemnation for the actions of militants, bandits and terrorists responsible for the blasts in Damascus and Aleppo, the open chase for Syrian civilian state and municipal employees, public and religious servants, shooting of university teachers and doctors, or taking hostage of Muslim pilgrims.” The Ministry states the text of the UN Human Rights Council resolution goes beyond its mandate and actually runs counter to the UN Security Council press statement of May 27.

China, Russia offset West’s actions in Syria

Posted by seumasach on June 1, 2012

Global Times

30th May, 2012

The Houla massacre may drive the situation in Syria to a new phase. “Only Russia, China can stop carnage in Syria”, an opinion piece published by CNN on Monday, claimed that China and Russia’s support for Bashar al-Assad is the reason for the Syrians’ suffering. This kind of rhetoric is not new. Western media has been taking this tone ever since China and Russia double-vetoed the Syrian resolution in the UN Security Council.
