Sinn Féin’s Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin has warned that cutting billions of euro out of the economy will not pull Ireland out of recession.
Mr Ó Caoláin made the comments at the opening of his party’s one day policy think-in at a Dublin hotel.
Deputy Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin warned further cuts would not be taken ‘lying down’ by the people of Ireland.
He said Sinn Féin would lead a series of major protests against Budget cuts in the coming weeks and that the party was preparing for a General Election he believed ‘could come at any time’.
Responding to the current controversy surrounding Taoiseach Brian Cowen, he said ‘real change requires more than a change of Government and more than just a change of face’.
He said shaping a better fairer Ireland was needed and the current Government had left people ‘disgusted’ with politics.
