Romney’s speech reflects the impasse of US foreign policy and the failure of its drive to global hegemony. Whilst “Banghazigate” was the cue for the usual foreign policy rotation the re-orientation to the control of the Americas, which could have been imputed to Romney, has already failed and Chavez is stronger than ever. The USA doesn’t know what to do and the only realistic policy, a constructive engagement with Russia, China and the NAM, is out of bounds

Republican nominee for President Mitt Romney gave what was supposed to be a major speech on foreign policy on Monday, arguing that President Obama has not shown “leadership” and that “nowhere is this more evident than in the Middle East. ”
