L’Argentine a été invitée à la dernière réunion des BRICS à Fortaleza, du 14 au 16 juillet 2014. A cette occasion, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, Présidente de l’Argentine, n’a pas évoqué, sauf à mots couverts, le défaut de paiement qui menaçait son pays. L’occasion aurait cependant été bonne pour elle de dénoncer le jeu des spéculateurs américains (notamment les fameux fonds vautours), soutenus par la législation des États-Unis, qui s’acharnent sur un pays fragile.

After more than six decades of dictating development policy in much of the emerging world, the Western-led International Monetary Fund and World Bank may soon have some competition.
The BRICS nations — Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa — are reportedly close to finalizing their long-awaited development bank and currency reserve, each valued at $100 billion, in what has been billed as a historic challenge by the world’s emerging economies to a global financial architecture that has been dominated by the U.S. and Western Europe since its post–World War II inception.

La banque de développement du BRICS devrait être officiellement annoncée lors du cinquième sommet des BRICS, qui se tiendra à Durban, Afrique du Sud, à la fin du mois de mars. L’Algérie et le Venezuela pourraient être conviés à participer au capital de la banque.
