Saudi patience is running out

Posted by seumasach on January 25, 2009

FT

22nd January, 2009

In my decades as a public servant, I have strongly promoted the Arab-Israeli peace process. During recent months, I argued that the peace plan proposed by Saudi Arabia could be implemented under an Obama administration if the Israelis and Palestinians both accepted difficult compromises. I told my audiences this was worth the energies of the incoming administration for, as the late Indian diplomat Vijaya Lakshmi Nehru Pandit said: “The more we sweat in peace, the less we bleed in war.”

Al-Faisal calls upon Arab FMs to seek action to end “Israeli aggression”

Posted by seumasach on January 25, 2009

I have somewhat belatedly come across this article which should be read alongside the  latest Saudi remarks condemnng the USA for its role in the Gaza massacre .

CAIRO, Dec 31 (KUNA) — Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal called upon the Arab foreign ministers during their urgent meeting in Cairo on Wednesday to focus on action rather than rhetoric to halt the Israeli aggression in Gaza.
Head of the Arab Foreign Ministers’ Council in its current session, Prince Saud Al-Faisal said, “The situation in Gaza is a massacre, and a crime against humanity, additional violence and extremism are expected in absence of any peace plans, which Israel claims it is working towards.” Questioning, he said, “What peace could be achieved from a mad military machine that only destoys and kills? which reflects the true Israeli identity.

A decisive loss for Israel

What’s Left

22nd January

Israel’s objectives from the war on Gaza were set long before its launch: to remove the Hamas movement and government, achieve the reinstallation of the Fatah leader, Mahmoud Abbas, in Gaza, and end the armed resistance. Two other objectives were not announced. First, restore the Israeli public’s wavering confidence in its armed forces after its defeat by Hezbollah in 2006. Second, boost the coalition government in the coming elections.

PM Dines With Fellow War Criminals – Gaza Solidarity Demo, London

Posted by seumasach on January 20, 2009

PM DINES WITH fellow WAR CRIMINALS

The demo’ this Saturday 24 January will march to
Downing Street, calling for the lifting of the Gaza blockade,
an end to all arms sales to Israel and for Israel to be made
to pay for its war crimes.

We will also be registering our disgust over Gordon Brown’s
support for Israel following its barbaric attack. The day
after the massacre was ended – so as not to spoil Barack
Obama’s inauguration with pictures of phosphorous bombs
dropping on UN schools in Gaza – Brown rushed off to join five
other heads of government for a celebratory gala dinner at the
Jerusalem home of Israel’s prime minister Ehud Olmert,
alongside Olmert’s compatriots in mass murder, defence
minister Ehud Barak and foreign minister Tzipi Livni.
