Jordanians show appreciation for Venezuelan Israel rebuff

Monsters and Critics

8th January, 2009

Amman – Hundreds of Jordanians, some of them carrying flowers, demonstrated outside the Venezuelan embassy Thursday to thank Caracas for severing ties with Israel in protest over the high casualty toll of civilians in the ongoing attack on the Gaza Strip.

The participants chanted slogans and raised placards praising the step taken by President Hugo Chavez and urging Arab countries with diplomatic ties with the Jewish state to follow Venezuela’s lead.

Jordan’s largest political party, the Islamic Action Front (IAF), has praised Venezuela’s rupture of diplomatic ties with Israel.

‘Your decision represents a spotlight in the middle of a wide area of black collusion by forces of arrogance and their subservient parties,’ IAF Secretary General Zaki Bani Ershaid said in a letter to Chavez.

He said that Venezuela’s move represented a ‘slam to those governments which maintain silence over the killing of children’ in the Gaza Strip.

Jordanian trade unions and opposition parties planned to stage a massive demonstration on Friday with the intention of proceeding to the Israeli embassy in Amman which has been under unprecedented security measures, since the start of the Israeli offensive 13 days ago.

Jordanian demonstrations have been pressing the government to sever ties with Israel and abrogate the peace pact Jordan concluded with Israel in 1994.

Prime Minister Nader Dahabi dropped strong hints earlier this week that the diplomatic ties with Israel could be affected as a result of the Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip

WASHINGTON, Jan 5 (IPS) – Until mid-2007, there was a serious political obstacle to a massive conventional war by Israel against Hamas in Gaza: the fact that Hamas had won free and fair elections for the Palestinian parliament and was still the leading faction in a fully legitimate government.

Holocaust Denied

The lying silence of those who know

By John Pilger

January 08, 2009 Information Clearinghouse — -“When the truth is replaced by silence,” the Soviet dissident Yevgeny Yevtushenko said, “the silence is a lie.” It may appear the silence is broken on Gaza. The cocoons of murdered children, wrapped in green, together with boxes containing their dismembered parents and the cries of grief and rage of everyone in that death camp by the sea, can be viewed on al-Jazeera and YouTube, even glimpsed on the BBC. But Russia’s incorrigible poet was not referring to the ephemeral we call news; he was asking why those who knew the why never spoke it and so denied it. Among the Anglo-American intelligentsia, this is especially striking. It is they who hold the keys to the great storehouses of knowledge: the historiographies and archives that lead us to the why. The BBC: Eyeless in Gaza

Posted by seumasach on January 7, 2009

Muhammad Idrees Ahmad

The Electronic Intifada

6 January 2009

On 29 February last year the BBC’s website reported deputy defense minister Matan Vilnai threatening a “holocaust” on Gaza. Headlined “Israel warns of Gaza ‘holocaust'” the story would undergo nine revisions in the next twelve hours. Before the day was over the headline would read “Gaza militants ‘risking disaster.'” (The story has since been revised again with an exculpatory note added soft-pedaling Vilnai’s comments). An Israeli official threatening “holocaust” may be unpalatable to those who routinely invoke its specter to deflect criticism from the state’s criminal behavior. With the “holocaust” reference redacted, the new headline shifted culpability neatly into the hands of “Gaza militants” instead.

“Al-Qaida” Networks Attack Obama

Posted by seumasach on January 7, 2009

We have suspected that the Gaza invasion is designed to undermine Obama and preempt any Middle-East settlement. Here is confirmation from what we have good reason to suppose are London/Washington run networks.

Daily Star

7th January, 2009

CAIRO, Egypt – Al-Qaida’s No. 2 leader lashed out at President-elect Barack Obama in a new audio message Tuesday, accusing him of not doing anything to stop Israel’s offensive in the Gaza Strip, according to an intelligence monitoring center.
