I have said it before and I will say it again without any apologies. Even then, there are still some who are awestruck at the continued attempts by the West (read Britain and America) to make Zimbabwe Africa’s protracted battleground for their imperialistic and hegemonic interests.

Mugabe threatens to seize foreign firms over sanctions

Posted by seumasach on July 21, 2008

There are two sides two economic warfare, especially as multipolarity emerges. Countries like Zimbabwe are no longer entirely dependant on the West. Notice that there is still massive British and Western investment in Zimbabwe: they have no moral scruples about exploiting the country -they just want all of it.

Wire Dispatch

20th July, 2008

Zimbabwe will transfer ownership of all foreign-owned firms that support Western sanctions against President Robert Mugabe’s government to locals and investors from “friendly” countries, a state newspaper reported on Sunday

‘Dodgy Dossier’ on Zimbabwe crushed

Philip Murombedzi

Sat, 12 Jul 2008 10:22:00 +0000 Zimbabwe Guardian

WHAT exactly is happening to the British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown? In June he suffered a humiliation local election defeat which left his party with one of the worst election outcomes in decades. Then came the Mayor of London election which Labour candidate Ken Livingstone dismally lost to ‘cartoon character’ Boris Johnson. Yesterday his ‘dodgy sanctions dossier’ calling for sanctions on Zimbabwe was crushed by Russia and China. Read the rest of this entry »

Intervene? Haven’t Britain and America already done enough damage?

Posted by seumasach on July 13, 2008

Here, rather surprisingly, is an organisation of the British Left which reveals the reality of Britian’s war on Zimbabwe and takes a stand in defence of Zimbabwean sovereignty.

Workers

July 2008 Issue

In all the coverage of Zimbabwe, it is rarely noted that the US and British states have been imposing punitive economic sanctions on the country since 2001. Western academics and journalists instead portray the crisis in Zimbabwe solely as the result of the land reform or of Mugabe’s mismanagement.

UK/USA/MDC: Bandaging the Truth

Posted by alfied on July 12, 2008

The Zimbabwe Herald

May the good Lord please help us! We seem to be living through an evil hour. Take this white woman journalist called Christina Lamb. I happen to have met her once. Quite unattractive and rather indifferent to femininity, she comes across as quite feeble and charitable, totally foreign to any harm to anyone, least of all a country. Until you discover her deadly side beneath this misleading patina of fragility. To the Empire, she is John Simpson’s female equivalent in print journalism. Or better still Chris McGreal’s female equivalent. She is M-16 affiliated; she gets her cue from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Once the Empire defines the enemy, she builds formidable propaganda against those the British establishment seek to destroy. Alongside the other two, and joined by a youthful intern at the Telegraph, David Blair, she is part of Britain’s propaganda frontline. This is a very useful brief to understanding what follows. Africa Advocacy and The Zimbabwe Factor

Posted by smeddum on July 11, 2008

blackcommentator.com

Like some BlackCommentator.com commentaries of the last two weeks, accounts of the situation in Zimbabwe by Africa advocacy organizations are virtually identical to those of corporate media, UK and US government officials. Solidarity With The People of Zimbabwe by Nunu Kidane, the quote by featured cartoonist Tony Namate published in the June 26th issue No. 283, and Bill Fletcher’s commentary titled, Mugabe Sworn in Officially…Simultaneously Loses his Legacy, in last week’s issue No. 284 all depict Zimbabwe as descending to hell in a hand basket at the hands of a despotic Mugabe. ‘G8 leaders support me on Zimbabwe’

Posted by seumasach on July 10, 2008

“The G8 leaders have been widely interpreted as giving Mbeki a slap in the face over his quiet diplomacy in Zimbabwe by recommending that a special UN envoy should be appointed on Zimbabwe.”

Interpreted, that is,  by the western press which is as monolithic as it is mendacious. London and Washington command only in the virtual world which their press create.

Peter Fabricius

10th July, 2008

President Thabo Mbeki has pointed out that G8 leaders have expressed support for his controversial mediation in the Zimbabwe crisis.

The 2008 G8 summit ended in Japan on Wednesday.

He was apparently responding to reports that his mediation had been slighted.

Mbeki said the G8 leaders as a whole, in a meeting with African leaders, and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, in a one-on-one meeting with Mbeki, had supported his effort.

Mbeki was speaking in an interview with the SABC at the summit. The G8 leaders have been widely interpreted as giving Mbeki a slap in the face over his quiet diplomacy in Zimbabwe by recommending that a special UN envoy should be appointed on Zimbabwe.

Showdown with Moscow as G8 bid to crackdown on Mugabe hits buffers

Posted by seumasach on July 10, 2008

Oh dear! It looks like Brown’s attempt to bounce Russia into supporting his Zimbabwe policy has badly backfired. We totally agree with the Russia spokesman:

“Russia’s ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, went even further, suggesting the measures in the draft Security Council resolution drawn up by the United States and Britain were outside the UN Charter.

“I personally believe some elements of the draft are quite excessive and clearly in conflict with the notion of sovereignty of a state member of the United Nations,” he told the BBC.”

For Russia the defence of national sovereignty is crucial as they know their own to be under threat. Conversely, for the cowboys operating out of London and Washington overriding it is the foundation of the lawless world they wish to control and plunder.

BRITAIN was on course for a diplomatic showdown with Russia last night after Moscow branded proposed international sanctions against Zimbabwe “excessive”.
