Syria envoy alleges rebel gas attack, demands U.N. investigation

Syria’s U.N. envoy on Wednesday requested that Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon order a U.N. team of chemical experts currently in Damascus to investigate three rebel attacks in which he said Syrian soldiers inhaled poisonous gas, Reuters reported.

THE African Union Peace and Security Council has called for the immediate and unconditional lifting of the West’s illegal economic sanctions against Zimbabwe to foster socio-economic recovery. The 15-member PSC, the only organ mandated to enforce union decisions, spoke in the wake of condescending pronouncements from the Anglo-Saxon alliance that comprises the US, Britain and its dominions — the erstwhile penal colony of Australia and Canada — that they would maintain their sanctions, claiming the July 31 harmonised elections were not free and fair.

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon pleaded Wednesday for a diplomatic solution to the Syrian conflict, even as world powers appeared to be moving toward punitive military strikes against President Bashar Assad’s regime for what the United States and its allies say was a deadly chemical weapons attack.

According to Pepe Escobar’s Facebook page, the Russian Ambassador claims that there is satellite evidence that the chemical weapon attack in Syria was carried out by someone other than the Syrian government.

Having absorbed the shock of Kerry’s speech I laid out what I regarded as the logical consequences in my article Kerry opens prospect of war without end.But none of the subsequent developments corresponds to this logic. Instead a number of enigmas present themselves. Having gone to the trouble (although not that much trouble judging by the shoddiness of this false-flag) of implicating Assad in a supposed chemical weapon attack they have failed to follow through in a way that would be expected. They have hinted at a very limited response not aimed at changing the military balance. They have renounced the goal of regime change and they have continued to refer to the peace process which I had assumed would automatically be buried by the recent dramatic turn of events.
