Obama’s anti-Russian turn is devoid of strategic sense. He can’t court China at the expense of Russia as Nixon did: China and Russia are now inseparable allies and increasingly so in the face of Western hostility. However, anti-Russian rhetoric does serve as a cover for Washington’s close engagement with China which includes permitting China to exchange its dollar holdings for real assets, especially artificially underpriced gold, but also real estate, industrial and port facilities inside the USA.

The India-Russia annual summitry had lately become a tepid affair — something like the anniversary of a boring marriage. How often can an aged couple arouse passion? But the upcoming event bringing President Vladimir Putin to Delhi next month promises to be exciting. Geopolitics may act like an aphrodisiac.

Alfredo Jalife-Rahme
Voltairenet
21st November, 2014

The macroeconomic and geopolitical stakes are high in a stand-off between the global East, South and West. As the stakes rise on the world’s chessboard, so does Iran’s role.

Between optimism and pessimism stands ‘cautious optimism’ in the lexicon of diplomacy. But ‘relative optimism’? Yet, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Rybakov, one of the sharpest minds in the Moscow diplomatic armory, would have weighed his words with care and ingenuity when he remarked on Tuesday following the 2-day talks of the P5+1 and Iran talks in Muscat, Oman, that he is “relatively optimistic” about a nuclear treaty being concluded by the November 24 deadline. He added: “The glass is half full; (but) it’s not half empty.”

As Germany and many other nations celebrate the 25th anniversary of the demolition of Berlin Wall, the event which symbolized the end of the Cold War, it is important to analyze why U.S. – Russia relations are presently at an even more confrontational state, and why Francis Fukuyama’s famously-proclaimed the “end of history” due to West’s triumphal victory over USSR was just wishful thinking by a great philosopher.

TUNIS – French philosopher Bernard Henri Levy was expelled from Tunisia Saturday night only 24 hours after his arrival in the country.
He was supposed to stay in Tunisia till Thursday.
His visit had provoked a storm of protests in the country. The trade union federation (UGTT) called Saturday for his expulsion from the country denouncing his role in “inciting anarchy and encouraging civil wars and terrorism in the Arab World”.

Biden spins a likely tale but sometimes, for example, when you’re completely reversing your foreign policy, some rewriting of history is necessary

First Germany, Now France Folds On Syrian Airstrikes
Zero Hedge
22nd September, 2014
In yet another rather embarrassing event for The White House, just days after President Obama praised the French for helping in the fight against ISIS, and General martin Dempsey noted “the French were our very first ally and they’re with us again now,” French officials have, according to Reuters, ruled out participation in airstrikes against Islamic State in Syria. With the fall of France (and Germany already saying “nein”), it appears the broad coalition is now a “coalition of none,” as Obama has stated the US would not go it alone…
